Ditto is a popular Pokemon; not for his offensive or defensive capabilities in battle, but instead for the benefits he brings to Pokemon breeders – he helps a lot when looking for those perfect IVs.
But how can you get hold of a Ditto in Pokemon X and Y? We’re here to tell you and, in fact, there are a handful of ways.
If you want to catch a Ditto yourself then these little creatures can be found in the yellow and purple fields of flowers in the Pokemon Village.
They will appear randomly, as with a number of other Pokemon, and can be caught at your leisure while you look for one with perfect – or as near-perfect as you can get it – IVs.
Their capture rate is quite high so you’ll want to bring specialised balls and, perhaps, the ability to send Ditto to sleep.
Using the move False Swipe will help too, since that won’t actually let him/her faint.
Friend Safari is a new feature in Pokemon X and Y where you can enter a specially created ‘garden’ of people on your friend’s list.
Here you have a chance of encountering one of three (the third being added if that friend has defeated the Elite Four) different Pokemon.
They could be rares or Legendaries, they could be Pokemon exclusive to the opposite version of Pokemon that you have or they might not otherwise be available in the game at all.
Additionally, Pokemon found in a Friend Safari will also have at least two perfect IVs – or perfect, innate numbers for a particular stat – which means, should you find a Ditto, you’ll have a better chance of getting a good set of base stats compared to hunting for yourself in the Pokemon Village.
The issue with this, if you haven’t guessed, is that it relies heavily on luck in finding a Friend Safari garden that comes with a Ditto. That’s highly unlikely, sadly.
The last option is probably the best option; trading. Here you can trade a Pokemon you don’t want for a Ditto, though that might seem unnecessary – surely you can just catch your own?
Well, the benefit to this is that someone may have a Friend Safari with Dittos and they may be trading them off on the Global Trade System (GTS).
If you head to the GTS option from the Social Link screen (menu on the top of the touch screen, to the left of the Wireless symbol), then select ‘Seek Pokemon’.
If you’ve already seen a Ditto, pick it from the Pokedex. If you haven’t, simply scroll all the way to the bottom, pick ‘What Pokemon?’ and type Ditto.
Additionally, in requirements pick a level range of 21-30. Why is this important?
Well, the Dittos you can catch in the field are higher than this, while all Pokemon that appear in the Friend Safari are level 30. This means if you force a trade for a level 30 Pokemon you’ll ensure you’ll get one from the Friend Safari and, therefore, your minimum of two perfect IVs.
