1. It’s a foreboding night in Hong Kong, and the Jiang Shi of legend are running amok in the market. Things start quickly, Wei’s girlfriend is kidnapped by a ghostly specter and runs off. Don’t let him get away, follow the green flames through the market.
2. Watch for the green flames on the ground if you ever lose track of your target. Hold down sprint, and remember to tap the sprint button whenever you near a closed gate to make a smooth jump. If you simply hold the button, or press it more than once, or too late, Wei will stumble.
3. The ghostly figure will lead you to a captured Uncle Salty. Once you reach Salty Crab, Chinese ghost zombie vampires will raise up and attack.
4. These are the Jiang Shi, hopping vampires that just want to suck your blood. They’re entirely new enemies, with new abilities and fighting styles. You’ll learn how to defeat them soon, but right now you lack Face.
5. When fighting the Jiang Shi, try to counter as they go for a grab. Often, you’ll need to wait for the vampires to actually grapple you before hitting counter to stop their bite.
6. The best way to take down these vampires is with a grapple. Hit them with a heavy combo – any string of strikes ending with a heavy strike will suffice. Hit them enough, and they’ll be staggered.
7. Staggered, or stunned vampires will have a swirling white circle over their heads. This is your chance to take them out instantly. Grapple a stunned vampire for an instant kill.
8. Avoid trying to grapple these vampires at this stage. Grappling a vampire will usually result in a bite-counter.
9. That’s enough strategy! Beat down these vampires with strikes and heavy strikes until they’re stunned, then grapple to finish them off. Defeat all four to save Uncle Salty.
10. When Salty is saved, the ghostly figure will make a break for it. Chase him through the busy market streets! Once again, just watch the ghostly green footprints, or watch the red objective marker over the ghost.
11. The ghost will lead you to another captured man. Crush four more vamps, and talk to the man to get another lead.
12. Talk to the man to learn the ghost’s name, “Smiley Cat”, and you’ll get another objective. Head to the green marker to confront this escaped soul.
13. The marker is just up ahead. You’ll enter an indoor space where Not Ping is being held by Smiley Cat. Inside, you’ll find a new environmental trap.
14. Just to the left and behind where you start, you can find a burning barrel. Grapple a vampire and run toward the barrel to instantly kill vampires. These barrels can be used infinitely, but the vampires can quickly escape your grapples.
15. Another note; make sure you only perform standing grapples on the stunned vampires. A running grapple will not net you an instant defeat.
16. Crush four more vampires, and Smiley Cat will escape with Not Ping. That completes the mission, and you’ll move onto the next job.
Chinese Magic
1. The streets are now covered in Hungry Ghosts. Not all ghosts want to fight, many will simply go about their business as usual – but, some of these ghosts will attack you on sight.
2. On the streets, cars will explode randomly in the chaos. Try not to get blown up!
3. Leave the marketplace and return to the Golden Koi. Just outside, civilian ghosts will attack, and you’ll get a chance to see how easy these enemies are. Wipe the floor with them, and continue upstairs to speak with the ghost of Vincent.
4. Leave through the backdoor in the kitchen to see what’s going on outback. You’ll come face to face with a demon – a Yaoguai.
5. Demons are difficult enemies, and at this point they’re completely unbeatable. Keep your distance, and counter when the demon tries to pounce on you. Don’t try to attack it, as it’ll immediately disappear and reappear behind Wei.
6. Keep fighting the demon until Uncle Salty yells at you. Run back upstairs and climb up the green tarps to speak with Salty, he’ll give you insight into fighting the demons.
7. After the talk, you’ll reappear outside the Golden Koi. Jump into a nearby car, and ghost-Vincent will appear to talk to you. Follow your green objective to the Apothecary to figure out how to make magic tea.
8. At the Apothecary, you’ll find four more vamps. Fight all four, or grapple and throw each into the nearby burning barrel.
9. Now, talk to the Lau, he’ll send you to find the three ingredients he needs. First up is Ghost Pepper. Get back into your car and drive to the destination on your map.
10. Stop near the alleys and run to the rooftops to find the house with Ghost Pepper. A vampire shows up after picking the pepper. Defeat the vamp, and be on your way back to a car.
11. At the next location, talk to the shopkeeper. He’ll ask you to beat up two punks across the street. Beat them up, and return to the shopkeep to get your egg.
12. Last up is Antifreeze. At the garage, you’ll face off against 18k goons armed with blade weapons. This’ll be one of the harder fights this early. You’ll want to disarm a thug to get his weapon, and look out for the grappler.
13. Defeat enough of the 18k, and you’ll have vampires on your case. Use the weapons left behind by the thugs to help stun the vampires and finish them off with a grapple. Once they’re clear, take the Antifreeze and return to the Apothecary.
14. Talking to the apothecary will reward you with Magic Face! Once you beat up enough enemies, you’ll enter an enhanced combat state, allowing you to quickly take out ghosts, vampires and demons. In fact, you can only hurt the demon when your fists light up with blue flame.
15. Get yourself back to the Golden Koi and exit through the kitchen backdoor again to face the demon for a second time.
16. Fill your Face Meter by fighting the vampires, then you’ll be able to damage the demon. Grapple the demon to deliver a powerful attack, but otherwise you’ll just want to get nuts with strikes and heavy strikes.
17. Vampires will continue to respawn until the demon is defeated. Fight the vampires until your Face Meter is full, then attack the demon until it’s defeated. Clear out the vampires, and the mission will complete, beginning the true meat of this mini-campaign.
Smiley Cat’s Army
1. Now, you can return to your North Point apartment and sleep.
2. At the apartment entrance, you can find a Wooden Sword – a powerful weapon against ghosts, vampires, and even demons. With the sword equipped, you can damage the demons even when your Face Meter is not filled.
3. Also, near your apartment entrance there’s a Hell Shrine. These shrines are scattered around North Point, and power-up your magic abilities. The more Hell Shrines you use, the more often your heavy strikes will set enemies on fire.
4. On the regular map, you can now find side-quests like captured civilians, Hell Portals, and demon appearances. Completing these quests will reward you with a new sword, and either a new set of clothes or a new car you can access in any parking lot.
5. At the beaches, you’ll be able to start the mission. Before stepping on the green marker, be sure to use the Hell Shrine nearby a wooden boat.
6. As the mission begins, you’ll have to fight a gang of Possessed 18k. These enemies, compared to vampires, are pretty simple to take care of. They fight just like regular thugs, except for two Brawlers mixed in. Wipe them all out, and Uncle Salty will arrive, helping you chase down Smiley Cat.
7. Chase the 18k car down, he’ll lead you under the highway where more 18k Possessed Thugs are waiting. They’ll come armed with knives, but your Fists of Fire and Face Meter help make these battles much easier.
8. You’ll be introduced to a new element, the Jiang Shi Energy Source. These glowing blue portals will constantly spawn vampires, keeping a consistent group of four in the fight.
9. To close these portals, stand near the center of these glowing sources and then grapple the vamps as they get near. Immediately press the grapple button again to throw the Jiang Shi back into their energy source.
10. Throw three vamps into their energy source to close the portals completely, then you’ll only need to take care of the last vampires. Grapple and throw them into the nearby burning barrels to make the rest of the fight trivial.
11. A demon will appear next. Once the portal is closed, a Wooden Sword will spawn, grab it to get in some easy hits against the demon. Built up your Face Meter to full, beat up the demon, then clear out the last of the vampires to complete the mission.
12. Now, you’ll have to deal with three resurrected enemies from Wei’s misadventures in Hong Kong. You’ll have a choice of two missions, but we’ll take care of Ratface first.
Clean out the Rats
1. At the docks, you’ll be asked to scout the area. Outside the warehouse, Vincent will warn you of the enemies ahead.
2. These 18k thugs are armed with pistols. Sprint toward the first enemy with his back turned, then grab while sprinting to tackle and wrestle his gun away.
3. Chase Ratface’s ghost into the garage and turn left. Vault over the wooden cover and take cover behind the crate to the right as more thugs appear.
4. The thugs will hide behind a car. Vault and aim to slow down time and take out both goons. Just ahead, more enemies will take cover behind crates. Pop and squat behind cover, clearing these thugs to chase Ratface.
5. Three goons guard the entrance, and four more will arrive inside the garage as you near. They’re all armed with pistols. Take your time if you take too much damage, and stick to cover.
6. Chase Ratface out through the back and into a boathouse. A new Energy Source will appear and you’ll lose your pistol. Stand in the center of the source, grapple the vampires, and throw them into the energy. Three throws will close the portal.
7. Johnny will attack once the source is gone. He’s armed with a knife, but you can easily defeat him by collecting the Peachwood Sword that spawns at the closed Energy Source. Defeat Ratface and clear out the vamps to complete this mission.
Revenge X2
1. Arriving outside the warehouse, you’ll get a glimpse of ghost-Dogeyes. Run ahead to the objective marker, and you’ll face off against an 18k ambush.
2. The thugs are a mix of Grapplers, Armed Thugs, and Brawlers. Disarm one of the goons to get your hands on his weapon, and use the burning barrel to take out more thugs.
3. Once the goons are defeated, the doors to the building will swing open and you’ll need to chase Dogeyes inside. If you wait around too long you’ll lose him and fail the mission.
4. Into the building, a new Energy Source will appear. You know the drill, throw vamps into the energy source to close it and Dogeyes will retreat into yet another room. Interact with the shutter and mash the counter button to open the door.
5. Ahead, you’ll be ambushed by a demon with his vampire minions. While the demons are always difficult, you’ll have an open incinerator. The incinerator can be used infinitely to defeat vampires, which is an easy way to fill your Face Meter.
6. Once the demon is defeated, crush the remaining vampires and you’ll only have Dogeyes to deal with. The ghostly man is armed with a butcher’s knife, and you can’t defeat him by normal means. Instead, you’ll need to grapple him and drag him into the incinerator for an instant win.
7. You’ll need to beat Dogeyes down until you’ll have a chance to grapple him. Once he’s defeated, grab him and throw him into the incinerator.
8. Another mission complete, another step closer to Smiley Cat.
Ghosts of the Past
1. The last of your old enemies is waiting at the Bam Bam Club. Vincent will advise you to ask Ponytail for help before you go inside.
2. When you’re ready, enter the club through the main entrance and head toward the bar area. There are two civilians held captive by a group of vampires. Take them out, then enter the bathroom to find the bouncer.
3. The bouncer is with a handful of regular thugs. They shouldn’t be a problem, as you’ll have more than enough environmental objects to use for instant defeats. Wipe the thugs out, then face off against Ponytail upstairs in the VIP area.
4. You’ll find a demon protecting Ponytail, with two vampires and two possessed thugs. Beat up the goons to build up your Face Meter, and crush the demon with grapples and heavy strikes.
5. The dead demon will leave behind a Wooden Sword. Use it to clear out any remaining minions, then run up to the exhausted Ponytail to learn Smiley Cat’s weakness.
Achievement / Trophy Unlocked – Pet Cemetary (15 points / Bronze): Send Dogeyes, Ratface and Ponytail back to Hell.
Smiley Cat
1. This is it, the final showdown! Go to the Temple where Smiley Cat and Not Ping are waiting.
2. At the temple, Monks are already in combat with the Hopping Ghosts. Run up the steps to the main grounds to initiate the confrontation.
3. Not Ping is being held above the temple, and Smiley Cat is ready to send his undead army after Wei! This begins a grueling battle with multiple waves. Hang tight, because you’ll just have to try and survive.
4. There are multiple environmental objects that’ll help you win this fight. Don’t forget to build your Face Meter, once it’s charged you’ll regain your health while you’re powered up.
5. During the first wave, you’ll have to close an Energy Source. You know what to do – stand in the center of the energy, and grapple the vampires as they hop near. Then, grapple and tap the grapple button quickly again to dump the vampire into the swirling blue energy.
6. Once the Energy Source is closed, a Wooden Sword will spawn. Don’t pick it up if you’ve already powered up, save those Swords when you need to refill your Face Meter.
7. After the vampires are defeated, Smiley Cat will possess a Monk. These Monks can counter your attacks, so it’s best to let them attack first. Wait for them to glow red, then counter. Follow up with a heavy strike combo, then back off and repeat the process until the Monk is no longer possessed.
8. Next, a demon with four vampires will appear. Now, you’ll want to use those environmental objects to help build your Face Meter and defeat the demon. The gongs on both sides of the arena can be used as often as you like – keep using them to instantly defeat vampires and quickly increase your Face Meter.
9. Once the demon’s remaining summoned vampires are defeated, another Energy Source will appear outside the main pathway, to the right of the entrance. Run over there and close that portal, there’s nothing to make this one more difficult than usual.
10. Smiley Cat will then possess another Monk. Just like the last Monk, he can counter your strikes. Don’t bother attacking first, wait for him to attack, then counter. Once you counter, he’ll be stunned long enough for you to combo.
11. Defeat the Monk, and another demon will appear. This is the last fight before you need to deal with Smiley Cat.
12. Once the last demon is dealt with, and his minions are gone, Smiley Cat will appear with his own set of vampire minions. He’ll bring more than four vampires, but he can be hurt without a full Face Meter.
13. Smiley Cat fights like a difficult Brawler, he’ll dodge and counter your grapples, but a good heavy strike will stagger him. Use your Face Meter to really hurt Smiley Cat, and ignore the minions. Once Smiley Cat is defeated, the mission will end.
14. Congratulations, you’ve saved Hong Kong from the Jiang Shi menace!
