Overview & Worlds
Eldritch is a game set mostly in dark and eerie dungeons, which also places a very large focus on exploration. The player is to collect the souls located at the bottom level of each unique dungeon.
The roguelike game features randomly generated dungeons spaced across three worlds with multiple layers. The developers have worked hard to make a non-linear game that urges the player to go in any direction they please, and use their creativity to obtain all of the souls and bring them back to the library.
The library is the starting world. The player is currently trapped inside of the maze of a library, and the only chance at escape is to collect the souls from all three worlds.
The library contains three strange books , each of which is a portal to a new world. Other books can also be found scattered around the library that offer tips, information, and a history of the library. After escaping dungeons, it is best to return to the library to store extra artifacts in the bank chest, replenish health by eating food, and place souls on the pedestal.
Dagon is the first dungeon which you must survive. The Soul of Dagon can be found on the third layer of the dungeon at the very bottom. A compass can be found at the beginning of the world, and is very useful for finding the exits.
This world contains many dangerous creatures such as the mages, snakes, bugs, fishmen, flying eyes, and the giant blob guarding the soul.
The second strange book leads to a world called Nyarlathotep . This tomb-themed dungeon is a host to many eerie enemies and traps.
It becomes very apparent that logic and skill must be used instead of sprinting in with dagger in hand. Keep an eye out for lizard men, living statues (cough: weeping angels), ghosts, false floors, and tripwires. Carefully descend to the bottom of the dungeon and collect the soul of Nyarlathotep.
The final strange book is a portal to R’1yeh . This forest dungeon is the home of many Cthulu-like monsters, flying abominations, and watchful eyes. Beware of the walls and floors which may become the main source of death. The dungeon is riddled with deadly eye traps, tripwires, and spikes.
Avoid the, often lazy, Cthulhu monsters and choose a path very carefully. Never run into a hallway without knowing what lies ahead. At the bottom of the dungeon lies the last soul, which belongs to Cthulhu.
After collecting all of the souls, return to the library and place them on the pedestals. If all of the souls are collected at once, the library exit will open up. However, the path upwards is not clear by a long shot. The library becomes the final dungeon, and is full of all of the creatures encountered in previous dungeons.
Instead of heading downward, begin your ascent to the top of the library. Avoid all of the angry creatures with the skill you have acquired along the way, and find the path to the Ritual of Binding . Subdue the abominations and monsters once and for all. After returning to the library, the soul of the librarian will be available. Collecting it activates New Game +, just in case Eldritch wasn’t already difficult enough.

Weapons & Gear
The first gear slot can hold one of many useful items. The first item, a compass, can be found at the very start of the first world. The compass will locate the exit in any dungeon.
The other pieces of gear can be bought at the store, or rarely found. The conjurer’s Talisman reduces the cost of all special powers. The Destruction Amulet will increase weapon damage and allow bullets to destroy terrain. The Lucky Charm makes enemy corpses drop more loot.
There are a few different kits available for purchase, or once again, to be rarely found. Each kit uses artifacts to grant a special ability.
The Medical Kit makes it possible to revive after death. The Tinning Kit makes corpses able to be eaten. If a locked door is in the way, it can be opened using the Locksmith Kit. Furthermore, an unlocked door can be locked using locksmith.
Boots can be very helpful throughout the game. The effects of each pair of boots is fairly obvious an does not require much explanation. Speed boots, stealth boots, or jump boots can be purchased at the store or found throughout the game.
There is also a set of useless gear . Dusty books are scattered throughout the dungeons. The dusty books are portals to a small hidden world that is the home to special gear. The Holy Symbol, Consecration Kit, and Blessed Sandals can be found hidden throughout the game. However, there is currently no apparent use for them.
Additional special powers can be acquired by praying to statues throughout the dungeons. Only one special power can be wielded at once, and will have a small artifact cost to use them.
Doors can be unlocked and enemies can be distracted using the Knock power. Cloak will render the player invisible, however creatures will still be able to hear footsteps. Creatures can be turned into friendly companions by hypnotizing them. Teleport allows the player to warp to a different location. Furthermore, there are speed boost and jump boost powers, as well as the power to create and destroy blocks.
There are two different types of firearms in Eldritch. The most commonly used gun is the revolver, a standard firearm used to induce bullet holes in creatures. The second is a tripwire gun. The tripwire gun allows the player to create their own traps on any surface to lure creatures to their death.
While trying to be stealthy, firing rounds at enemies may not be the best course of action. Fists can be used to knock out creatures. Daggers can be wielded to increase the range and damage of melee attacks.
Throwing-based weapons are commonly found throughout the dungeons. Rocks and bottles can be hurled at creatures for a devastating blow. Bottles may break, but rocks can be retrieved and reused. If a firearm is out of bullets, it can also be used as an expensive rock.
TNT is the only type of explosive in Eldritch. Explosives are extremely practical, but very loud. Walls and floors can be demolished, lizard statues can be destroyed, and enemies can be blown to smithereens. If all else fails, blow something up.

Creatures
Each dungeon contains its own unique, and also deadly, creatures. Unless hypnotize has been used, these creatures are definitely not friendly. To complete Eldritch, it is crucial to get to know all of the creatures in the game.
Dagon has a couple of unique enemies, such as the snakes, fish men, and giant blob.
Snakes are relatively harmless, but can be frightening due to their piercing scream. Be sure to keep fish men at a distance, or they will attack with their scaly melee attacks. The giant blob in the lower level of the dungeon can be avoided by simply running or using stealth.
Nyarlathotep is home to some of the most frustrating and deadly creatures in Eldritch. Lizard men will commonly try to cause death with their blasts of energy.
If that isn’t bad enough, there are also lizard statues which always attack from behind. Statues can only be defeated using TNT. Otherwise, the best course of action is to keep watch and do not let them out of sight until there is a wall between the player and the statue. In other words, blink and you die. Alternatively, statues cannot see the player if a cloak is used.
Lastly, lanky ghosts can be found wandering the tombs. They can be temporarily disabled, but not defeated.
R’1yeh is full of hostile, yet lazy, creatures. Fish men are found banging their heads on the wall without much concern for the player. Cthulus are very common, and are usual spotted taking relaxing strolls through the forest or taking naps.
The walls have eyes in R’1yeh, but they can be easily avoided if the player remains aware. So long as the eyes are not touched, they are harmless. Finally, some very ugly abominations are flying around the forest. They are very hostile, but can be taken out with a few accurate revolver shots.
Mages can be found across all of the dungeons. They remain very similar, despite their change in wardrobe color. Mages will try to cause mayhem with their deadly balls of energy.
Just like any real dark and creepy places, there are bound to be a few unwanted bugs . Bugs can be found in all dungeons, and become increasingly deadly throughout the worlds.
Usually they are small and pose little threat, but can become quite dangerous when found in numbers. It is best to simply squish them before they become a problem.
Flying eyeballs , or fleyeballs, can be commonly found soaring through the fresh dungeon air. While they are not very dangerous, they can be difficult to kill due to their ability to fly.
If the player is planning on killing a fleyeball, it is best to use a revolver or a thrown object. While it is possible to melee them, it is very likely that the eyeball will become unreachable and attack.

Tips & Strategies
Eldritch is a game of immense difficulty, and requires much patience to learn how to conquer the deep dungeons. Firstly, it’s quite important to know just where to go . Each soul is located at the bottom level of any given dungeon, so primarily travel downwards.
To find a soul, it is important to learn the map and the symbols. Explore the dungeons and travel to various locations on the map. Exploration is a very good practice to learn how to navigate Eldritch. Remember to follow the arrows on the map to find access to different elevations, and use a compass to locate the exits. Also, in a situation where the path becomes unknown, TNT can be used to create a shortcut.
All of the souls must be collected in one playthrough, and the dungeons become increasingly difficult. Due to this, it is best to upgrade the player early on .
Build up health and collect gear. Listen for running water and navigate towards it to find a fountain that will upgrade maximum health. Gear can be bought with artifacts at the shops, so collect artifacts very often. Furthermore, experiment with gear combinations until you find something that works well for your play style.
If the health bar is running low, don’t be afraid to take a minute to search for fresh food. Be wary of rotten food that has a chance at decreasing health.
Learn how to use the bank . The first attempt to beat Eldritch is not very likely to end in success. Collect artifacts and store them in the bank so they can be used at a later time. When it comes to the final attempt, it will be very useful to have a few extra artifacts handy to purchase gear and use abilities.
Use special abilities when needed . Don’t be shy about it. While abilities will drain a small amount of artifacts, they can be extremely useful in a tight spot. Find a power that is best suited for you, and keep it ready. It could very well be the difference between a successful run and death.
Practice to traverse the dungeons with agility, precision, and stealth . There are a couple of useful mechanics that can be easily overlooked. Holding sprint and crouch at the same time will result in an epic power slide. Not only is it extremely fun to do, but it can also aid in daring escapes.
Secondly, instead of barging into a room head first, use the lean mechanics to get a glimpse around the corner. If there is a creature waiting, choose a path carefully.
Next, adjust the mouse sensitivity and become accurate with the attacks. A game with such a high difficulty cannot be interrupted by missed attacks. Always stay aware and be stealthy. Know the surroundings, creature locations, and escapes to sneakily explore the dungeon and minimize danger.
As obvious as it may sound, do not commit suicide . It is very easy to mindlessly eat some toxic fruit, jump down a ledge which may be a bit too high, or even commit suicide with a ricocheting rock. Most suicides can be avoided by thinking about actions before actually doing them.
Last but not least, know the enemy . Eldritch is filled with many creatures and traps. Knowing how they work, what they do, and their weaknesses will ultimately lead to a successful completion of the game.
