Top 10 Best Xbox 360 Games of 2014

Top xbox 360 games of 2014

While next-generation consoles have landed full force over the past few days, this does not signify the death of the current generation platforms we’ve owned for years. It will take a while for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One to gain full steam and expand their line-up of games. In addition, there aren’t that much “must haves” during launch either.

If you’re not ready to jump on the next wave, that’s perfectly fine because there’s still tons of games on coming out for current gen. Let’s take a look at some of the most promising titles coming out for the Xbox 360 in the future.

10 Destiny

Bungie gave us ten years of Halo, and now that the contract with Microsoft is expired, Bungie is set to give us ten years of Destiny. Working for publisher Activision now, Bungie’s new title is a massive multiplayer class based online shooter. Think Halo mixed with Borderlands and a more RPG like structure to it all. The game comes with a rich, well fleshed out backstory and bungies fully armed and operational battlestation worth of artists and game designers and is bound to be one of the defining titles of the upcoming generation of games.

9 Watch Dogs

Not only on the new consoles, even on the old ones Ubisoft’s new flagship title Watch Dogs is one of the biggest upcoming games of next year. Like many games coming out of Ubisoft, Watch Dogs takes big cues from the Assassin’s Creed games in terms of UI and appearance, animation and mission structures. We will see how close to the older brother this new near-future action title is when it releases next April.

8 Wolfenstein The New Order

Everyone loves killing Nazis. They are oh so crunchy when you perforate their perfectly shaped blonde haired heads. Even crunchier of course are only robot nazis, potentially from outer space. Which you can perforate in Machine Games upcoming debut title. Chances are this game will be great, not only because it is a fresh entry into one of the oldest shooter franchises we have, but because it is developed by a team consisting of former Starbreeze developers. People who left before the studio made the dismal Syndicate

7 Metal Gear Solid V - Ground Zeroes / The Phantom Pain

One game enters, two games leave. In soviet Russia, Thunderdome leaves you. Or something along these lines. Yes, what used to be one game, Metal Gear Solid V, is now two games, Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain respectively. Now game development deity Hideo Kojima has even more time for never ending expository cutscenes. I hope the man never finds out how to procedurally create things, because then we will all be screwed eternally.

6 Dragon Age: Inquisition

BioWare went back to the lab after the debacle of Dragon Age II, the fan backlash against the Mass Effect 3 ending and the departure of the beloved Doctors to Valhalla where they now drink beer and feast for all eternity. Dragon Age Inquisition, so it is said, will not repeat the sins of the past. Gone will be That One Warehouse to fight in. We are now promised a huge, almost open world to explore, with a more focused game design and an appropriately rich, well written story and lots of romance / sexing options. We’ll see if the fans can be satisfied. I bet on “nope,” but then I tend to always hate people so what do I know.

5 Final Fantasy XIII - Lightning Returns

The most blatantly misleading franchise in the history of gaming just got worse. Not only is Final Fantasy XIII - Lightning Returns not the last, the final entry in the series - although it is the latest, note the difference - but also is it not the XIIIth part but the second sequel to the thirteenth part. This sequel of a sequel, or sequel of an installment, will get a more action oriented gameplay into the game, less linear railroady progression and, well, more Lightning with bigger boobs, simply because they can. And the target audience wants it. Or something.

4 Dark Souls 2

Bigger and darker than ever, Dark Souls 2 - Dark Harder comes back to kick your arse. But gently this time, gently. The developers have promised to go easier on us, much to the hardore fanbase’s dismay. The fans cry foul, the developers want to open up the punishingly hard game a bit, and nobody will end up happy. But that might just be the thing the spirit of Dark Souls wants. Nobody can be happy.

3 Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2

Bigger and darker than ever, Castlevania - Lords of Shadow 2 - Lord Harder comes back to whip your butt. With a vengeance! Protagonist Dracula is back from the grave, and he is thirsty! This game supposedly concludes Spanish developer’s Mercury Steam’s stint as Castlevania developers. Lords of Shadow 2 will feature some new mechanics, especially since our protagonist and hero has turned into, well, the series’ villain, and some new - and old - characters. Symphony of the Night protagonist Alucard is poised to make an entrance, connecting the Lords of Shadow games with the rest of the Castlevania timeline.

2 Thief

Bigger and darker than ever, Thief does not have a 2 in it’s name and nothing else indicating that this is indeed the fourth entry into the Thief series. To clear up the confusion, it should be called Live Free or Thief Hard. But I don’t work in marketing, so it’s not called that. It’s Eidos Montreal’s second dive into the wild world of Ion Storm licenses, and so far it’s looking relatively good, even though we’ll have to see just how worthy an entry into the series it will be when the game is finally released in 2014.

1 Titanfall

If you thought Titanfall would only be coming out for the Xbox One and PC, you'd be mistaken. It's also slated for release on the Xbox 360, although with that being said, it's going to be ported by a third party studio rather than developed in-house at Respawn Entertainment. Be that as it may, it's the only proper "exclusive" that's coming to the Xbox 360 next year and unless you intend on picking up a next-gen console, this is it for you.
