We all have companies we despise in real life because of poor customer service or fraud. However, I think that more nefarious corporations exist in the video game world where day to day activities include torturing people and starting a zombie apocalype. If these companies exist, it would be a good idea if your worked for them or if you're the hero of the story because you might be on the short end of the stick otherwise.
Let's take a look at some of the evil corporations that existed in video games...
I think any company seeking to establish a new world order should be an organization worth avoiding. They are also notorious of keeping people captive and forcing them to relive the memories of their ancestors until their brain can't take it anymore. The sad part is they think that are doing for the greater good, but what they intend to achieve is a deceptive kind of peace that nobody wants.
If Abstergo forces people to relive memories, Memorize messes with it by giving people the ability to steal and alter it. Sounds like a cool job to do if you're on their side, but not so dandy if you're just an unsuspecting citizen. It's scary how you may not be able to trust your mind where a company like this exists since what you know can be altered without even you knowing it. It's sort of like the film Total Recall where you question what is real.
Cerberus might not be a company per se, but they do have a significant number of employees so I think it counts. Don't understimate this organization as a simple pro-human advocacy group because they are far more sinister than that. In fact, they have no qualms about killing other aliens to further their human centric agenda. The irony is that they aren't also opposed to killing their own kind for the good of humanity. Perhaps their definition of humanity pertains to anyone who sides with them?
The Umbrella Corporation will stop at nothing to achieve a profit even if it means unleashing a zombie apocalypse and killing their entire consumer base. When the outbreak in Raccoon city happened, they didn't feel sorry about it. The company actually saw a silver lining and actually figured that it was a way to show the potential of the T-virus. I really don't know how an unctrollable zombie virus is appealing to anyone, but thank goodness I don't live in a world where Umbrella exists.
You know how smartphone companies release nearly identical versions of the same device every year? It's frustrating how the little upgrades could have been added in the base model. Well, apply this concept with limb augmentations only it would come at the cost of our lives if we don't have the money to upgrade.
Sarif Industries and Tai-Yong might just be a futuristic depiction of what Apple will be.
Do you know about the history behind Aperture Laboratories? Apparently, the company was spearheading research for the Counter-Heimlich Maneuver to ensure choking and started the Take-a-Wish program to give the wishes of dying children to healthy adults. Cruelty is definitely their business. What's unforgivable is the fact that they promise you cake and then lie about it in the end!
Why am I hating on a company who creates vaults to shelter humanity from the apocalyptic wasteland? Well, that's not entirely the reason why Vault-Tec created these vaults. It turns out that they wanted to do various experiments on humans. One was to study society in isolation, another dabbled with clones, and there was even a virtual reality simulator that's messed up.
You would think that it was enough for Eurocorp to control half of the population with their chips. Nope, they also want to have their own army of agents to fight their war for corporate domination. The sad thing is that the company would murder couples and get their babies if they had the perfect genetics to become an agent. On top of that, they will also alter your memories to keep you loyal to the company.
What happens when you get generations of one family fighting to take control of Devil Gene? Well, chaos for one and it also doesn't help that the Mishimi bloodline has their company to fund their battles with one another. They even have their own private army to do all their dirty work. It's pretty much a normal family quarrel amplified with more bloodbath and destruction.
Shin-Ra is an electric company with private armies and warships. Yes, they can afford to do so because people become so dependent on electricity in the future. Heck, we even act like headless chicken in America when we lose electricity and Internet for a couple of hours. If you don't pay your bills, prepare to be shot by their troops and robots. Too bad, people have no choice since the company created a monopoly of energy. Wait till everyone else finds out that the company is slowly draining the planet's life source in the process as well.
