We have compiled a list of all the star coin locations in the 8 levels within World 1. Some of these are pretty tricky to get to and are located in hidden areas and since we cannot take screen shots of each location we will do our best to explain where they are in text. By collecting the star coins you can unlock special features in the game as well as unlocking the Star world (You will need to pay 90 Star coins to unlock the main path for Star world and to reveal the Star world you must complete World 6 Castle).
World 1-1 Star Coin Locations
1-1 Star Coin 1 Location – The first star coin is super easy to find and I think its meant to be that way. in world 1-1 as you get to the first set of note blocks use your jump to bounce up to the star coin.
1-1 Star Coin 2 Location – This star coin is also easy to see just above a row of note blocks, the easiest way to get this coin is to break the bottom row of blocks to retrieve this star coin.
1-1 Star Coin 3 Location – the third star coin is a little more tricky, you will need to go into a pipe with a 10x coin block is just before it and a row of three staggered note blocks just after it. When you go into this pipe it will shoot you into the hidden area where the third and final star coin is located.
World 1-2 Star Coin Locations
1-2 Star Coin 1 Location – The first star coin is located just after the first two blue pipes as you enter the cavern. When you see 2 green koopa’s and 1 red koopa stuck in some bricks with 2 red POW. Use the ground pound to access the pow and break the surrounding bricks. the coin should be located somewhere in the middle.
1-2 Star Coin 2 Location – The second star coin is located in the two pipes just after the first coin (blue tall pipe and yellow shorter pipe). once you exit the yellow pipe use the P switch to change the blocks into coins then run to the right and jump to the upper level to get the second star coin.
1-2 Star Coin 3 Location – Star coin three is easy to see just between the elevator platforms, you will need a mega mushroom to break the bricks to get the star coin (there was a mega mushroom you should have collected earlier on in the stage). If you don’t have it anymore or it wore off you will need to play the level again this time save the mega mushroom to retrieve the star coin.
World 1-3 Star Coin Locations
1-3 Star Coin 1 Location – The first star coin is located on top of one of the trees just before the half way mark, you will need raccoon Mario to get it, if you don’t have raccoon Mario there is a question box just after the half way flag with a super leaf.
1-3 Star Coin 2 Location – The second star coin is a little harder to get, just after the mid way flag there is another tree. Fly onto that tree and go down the pipe.. the pipe will then launch you to a cloud platform where you will then need to fly and get the second star coin.
1-3 Star Coin 3 Location – The third star coin can be seen at ground level, again you will need to be raccoon Mario to do a tail whip to break the bricks to access this star coin.
World 1-Tower Star Coin Locations
1-Tower Star Coin 1 Location – The first star coin is located to the left of the screen just before the mid way flag, wait for the snake blocks to move then do a wall jump and grab the coin.
1-Tower Star Coin 2 Location – The second coin can be found by going into the red pipe to the left one platform above the half way flag. Once you are in that room simply hit the P switch and “Quickly” use the bricks to grab the star coin.
1-Tower Star Coin 3 Location – The third star coin is again to the left of the screen easily visible as you go up the platforms. If you have raccoon Mario simple tail whip the Piranha.. otherwise you have some tricky maneuvering to retrieve that coin.
World 1-4 Star Coin Locations
1-4 Star Coin 1 Location – First star coin can be easily seen simply wait for the pink toadstool to tip upwards or use raccoon Mario to fly up there.
1-4 Star Coin 2 Location – The second star coin is located in a hidden area (a blue pipe in the sky). at the end of this secret area you need to coordinate an exact jump to get the star coin.
1-4 Star Coin 3 Location – The third star coin is located in another hidden area, this area is a long pink toadstool with 2 levels of bricks each with 2 question boxes, on the bottom row between the question boxes hit the brick to reveal a vine. Climb up the vine to the secret area. Use the P switch to convert the coins to bricks then use wall jump to get to the top where the star coin is located.
World 1-5 Star Coin Locations
1-5 Star Coin 1 Location – The first star coin is easy to spot, if you have fire Mario use it to get rid of that annoying cheep cheep
1-5 Star Coin 2 Location – The second star coin is down a yellow pipe under a platform (just after a coin roulette). You will need to sink down and swim against the undertow to get this coin.. be sure you don’t get sucked under!
1-5 Star Coin 3 Location – The third star coin is in a hidden area, its a little hard to explain but when you see an area at the top of the cavern that looks like a triangle and has an unusual platform where you can stand that is the spot. simply swim up as there is no roof there. The star coin is super easy to get once you figure out the spot.
World 1-Castle Star Coin Locations
1-Castle Star Coin 1 Location – The first star coin is pretty easy to see, all you have to do is wait for the platforms to come up and you can jump on them to get the star coin.
1-Castle Star Coin 2 Location – The second star coin is also visible and all you need to do is have a racoon mario fly up there and get the coin. There is a super leaf on the platform above the first star coin location.
1-Castle Star Coin 3 Location – The third star coin is located just before the final gate. Use the Big Thwomp to break the bricks and as he is moving back up try and get in there quick to grab the coin.
World 1-A Star Coin Locations
1-A Star Coin 1 Location – First star coin is located in the first drop down door under some bricks.
1-A Star Coin 2 Location – Located just under the roulette coin box, drop through the drop down door and love just enough to the left so the door move back into place.. if you move to far you will lock yourself out and have to come back down the door again.
1-A Star Coin 3 Location – The third coin is in a hidden area. Just before the goal flag there is a four sided pipe if you go under the pipe and then to the left there should be a hidden brick, jump up to activate it. go onto the brick and move to your left pipe to enter the hidden area. You will need to use the koopa once you get in the hidden area, stomp on it and use it to kill the Giant Piranha plant.
