One of the most central gameplay features of Ni No Kuni: Wrath Of The White Witch is the familiar management: without them, our poor Oliver wouldn’t stand a chance against the strange creatures living in the mysterious world of Ni No Kuni. The Familiar system is pretty deep, featuring a lot of tiny little details that may escape some players: as always we are here to help you with a series of guides which will detail all there is to know on the familiars mechanics included in the game. In this guide we will be covering the Celestial Signs.
Each familiar in the game possesses one out of eight celestial signs: there are four basic signs, some special twin signs which are actually an improvement on the single signs and the special planet and double planet sign. The latter offer a nice bonus during battle but they actually are the rarest to find. Here’s the full list of Celestial Signs.
Sun – +5% resistance to fire-type attacks and sleep
Star – +5% resistance to storm-type attacks and poison
Moon – +5% resistance to water-type attacks and confusion
Planet – +5% XP bonus
Twin Sun – +10% resistance to fire-type attacks and sleep
Twin Star – +10% resistance to storm-type attacks and poison
Twin Moon – +10% resistance to water-type attacks and confusion
Twin Planet – +10% XP bonus
Together with these bonuses, the Celestial Signs have other effects in battle since they make all the familiar behave in a rock-paper-scissors pattern: some signs are strong against some and weak against another so they will be deal a 20% extra damage to weak sign and receive a 20% extra damage from stronger sign. The percentage rises to 30% if twin signs are involved.
Familiars with the planet sign get a 50% extra damage done on twin planet familiars, while twin planet familiars actually deal a 10% extra damage to familiars with all the other signs except for the single planet ones.
As you can tell, the planet signs are the best for in battle bonuses. Star signs are also very good since many bounty monsters come with the sun sign, dealing way more damage. All the other signs are situational and can be as effective as not too good depending on the situation. A well balanced team is always the best way to go.
