Final Fantas XIV: A Realm Reborn Races Guide: Lalafell



After a very lengthy development cycle, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has finally been released. As FF fans already know, the original release of the game wasn’t what people were expecting, releasing to the public with many bugs and incomplete features that would have required an excessive amount of work to fix. Square Enix reps stated that the game tarnished the Final Fantasy brand, requiring a complete reworking of the game’s mechanics in moving forward, to try and help fans forget about the original FF XIV launch.

Fast forward to present day, with the game seeing a relaunch, and A Realm Reborn has been a smashing success. So much so in fact, Square Enix had to stop the sale of digital copies of the game to try and improve the servers, which were unable to handle the huge number of log-ins closer to a the game’s launch.

Let’s begin with the races: there are five of them, with each one being better in some fields than in others. Knowing the races and all they’re capabilities will be of great help in creating a powerful and effective character build.

The five races are:

  • Hyur
  • Miqo’te
  • Elezen
  • Roegadyn
  • Lalafell

Lalafell

The Lalafell are hard not to notice due to their small physique. They’re the smallest race in Eorzea and it’s hard for non Lalafell to tell how old they truly are. They originally were an agricultural people living in the south seas and have reached Eorzea through trade routes. Lalafell also get along well with the other races, having nice relationships with the rest of Eorzea inhabitants.

The Lalafell are divided into two clans, the Plainsfolk and the Dunesfolk. The Plainsfolk live in areas where the ground can easily be cultivated, while Dunesfolk live in desert areas and are always ready to act. The Dunesfolk have also founded the city of Ul’dah.

Dunesfolk starting attributes: Strength: 17, Dexterity: 20, Vitality: 17, Intelligence: 21, Mind: 22, Piety: 23
Plainsfolk starting attributes: Strength: 18, Dexterity: 22, Vitality: 18, Intelligence: 21, Mind: 20, Piety: 21
