How to summon a friend in Dark Souls 2

Unfortunately Dark Souls 2, developed by From Software, does not feature a traditional multiplayer mode that allows you to play sociably with your friends. However there are methods that you can use in order to jump into your friends gameplay for a limited time and collaboratively battle against enemies and bosses. Here we’re going to take you through the steps to summoning players in Dark Souls 2.

The first thing you need to do is discover and collect a soapstone, which allows players to plant signs to request help from other players in specific parts of the game , and a name engraved ring which allows you to worship a certain God.

Location of the White Sign Soapstone in Dark Souls 2
In the forest of fallen Giants you will come across a guy called Pate who explains that there is treasure on the other side of the gate, however he is afraid to collect it himself as he has seen the gate lock people in after they enter. Enter through the gate and it will as promised, close behind you, fight off the enemies contained inside and clear the area. Afterwards you’ll come out onto an open area, which leads to a ledge directly above Pate. Reach the lowest point possible on this area, and fall down onto the ground, you’ll take a small amount of fall damage. Head back over to Pate and he will praise you, however if you talk to him a second time he will offer you the white sign soapstone allowing you to engage in co-operation. Summoning your friend using the soapstone
Now the first thing to bare in mind is that both players will need to be in Human form, the boss within the area must still be alive and you are only able to summon players who are within 10 levels, higher or lower, of your current rank. Both players will need to purchase the name engraved ring, equip it, and select the same god to worship. By doing this, the game will throw you into the same pool when requesting for assistance in combat using the white sign soapstone. Now go ahead and place your summon sign down and it will send a request to all of the players connected to this chosen God of worship. Of course, there will be other players who may accept this, however ensure that your friend is ready and waiting to accept this request before others may do so. If this does not work first time then continue trying as it can sometimes be difficult to connect.
