Dark Souls 2: how to earn more Souls and upgrade Estus Flask

Here’s a video we’ve put together showing you how to earn a decent amount of souls for your first few level ups, and how get your first Estus Flask upgrade in Dark Souls 2. Upgrading your Estus Flask for the first time gives you two uses out of it instead of one, which is particularly useful when traversing the unforgiving journey ahead of you.

This is the first time that this character has entered Majula. Remember that the path that we’ve taken to earn more souls is a much more difficult one than taking the road to the Forest of Fallen Giants, which is the recommended path for the first playthrough.

Remember that you can always fast travel between bonfires, so you can easily get back to Majula to spend your souls on levelling up and gaining important stat increases to help you early on in the game, or conversely on buying from the merchants in Majula. It is also worth noting that as enemies in Dark Souls 2 do not respawn indefinitely you can eventually clear out the area. There are more enemies spread out throughout the area however, so it is easily possible to advance your character by quite a few levels if you clear out the entire area piece by piece.
