In Dark Souls 2, invincibility frames, also known as iframes, make up the moments when your character is untouchable while rolling, which will help you get out of that tricky spot – alive! The number of iframes you can benefit from depends on your character’s Agility, a stat which can be increased by allocating points to Adaptability or Attunement, you can read more about the latter in our Attunement guide.
What follows is the link between a Dark Souls 2 character’s Agility and the number of invincibility frames they have when rolling:
The table explains, as the Dark Souls 2 Adaptability stat and Agility increases, so does the number of iframes you have. But this increase in iframes is awarded in stages. With the help of a calculator we were able to realise how Agility and the number of iframes relate to your invincibility in gameplay, providing the duration of your invincibility in a roll as percentages.
Some might question if it’s worth using points on the Adaptability stat in Dark Souls 2. You can read our verdict here, though there is only a single iframe separating the Agility stat at 100 and 105, that is invincibility for an additional 4% of a roll. The greatest percentage differences appear when the Agility changes from 95 to 100 and again when the stat increases from 110 to 115. Even if 4% doesn’t seem worth it, surely the extra 2 frames and almost 10% of a roll must be worth some souls. Adaptability building could make all the difference between dodging and taking damage with a roll in Dark Souls 2.
It is important to note that iframes do not start at the beginning of a roll; instead, they take effect during the manoeuvre, resulting in more protection later in the sequence. The theory behind iframes and Agility in Dark Souls 2 was tested by rolling in front of attacks with long durations and getting destroyed when the Adaptability test failed.
