How to get the 8-bit Sword in Hyrule Warriors

Link has came a long way since his first outing in The Legend of Zelda, released on the Nintendo Entertainment System way back in 1986. But one item that has came all that way with him is that old 8-bit sword that players first picked up in that cave all those years ago.
The 8-bit sword, which is added in a day-one patch to Hyrule Warriors is not only a nice self-reference from the decades old series, and one of the most enduring symbols of gaming through the years, but in Hyrule Warriors, it's also the most powerful weapon accessible to you so early on in the game.

This isn’t the first thing that Nintendo has put into the Legend of Zelda/Dynasty Warriors mashup that will appeal to long time fans of the game looking for that nostalgia factor. Not too long ago Adventure Mode was also unveiled as being a part of the game. Adventure Mode makes use of those iconic sprites from the NES days to act as on overworld map for the battle mode, and is arguably one of the most familiar things about the game to Zelda fans.
With Adventure Mode, and now the chunky and slightly silly looking 8-bit sword and shield, it’s nice to see that Nintendo are still making an effort to include the magic that we all love about the series, and that Hyrule Warriors isn’t just the cash-in that many were worried that it would be.
The spin-off has a little something for fans of any Zelda game, with a good amount of Zones and Characters represented, from the Goron Chief Darunia to the Twighlight Princess herself, Midna.

The 8-bit sword and shield is included in the 1.2.0 update that is available now, all you have to do after that is go into your inventory and equip them!
Regardless of whether you’re interested in the sword or not, you really shouldn’t miss this update. The patch fixes several bugs, as well as adding a new time trial battle Challenge Mode, as well as the option to turn that background music (as nice as it may be) down a little.

So now that you have your fancy retro styled 8-bit sword, go forth and take out your rage on anyone who calls it a Minecraft sword.
