Unlocking Characters Unlocking Stages Challenge Unlockables Hints and Tips

Unlocking Stages

Stages can be unlocked in a variety of ways. In total there are seven stages to unlock and each stage is attached to one of the characters. As a general rule of thumb, the stages typically become unlocked by using the character that is associated to the stage to perform some sort of task such as performing their final smash in a battle. Look below to see how to unlock each stage.

To unlock the “Random Stage Switch” Option you will need to unlock all the stages with the addition rules enabled. The random stage switch will appear underneath the rules option.

Holding down “R” whilst you choose a stage will change the background music that you hear during your battle. If you hold “R” whilst picking a stage the shadow behind the picture will change colour so it is easy to see if you are doing it right.

Tip: On the Golden Plains Level, you will find that you can collect coins. This is a useful ability to have as if you collect 100 coins your character will temporarily turn into a golden version of itself, complete with stronger attacks and flinching immunity.

Use the ropes on the Boxing Ring level to give you a boosted jump high into the air - and even reach the lights overhead! You can send the lights hanging above the Boxing Ring crashing down to harm those below.

Arena Ferox has four different types of platforms that appear, several of these can be destroyed.

Hit the flying Onions with Pellets to get items on the Distant Planet! Bigger numbers on pellets do more damage.

The Shy Guys carry items in Yoshi’s Island. You can hit them to get fruit

Coconuts and Durians on Tortimer's Island have no healing powers, but will sometimes explode causing damage.
