5 Things to look forward to in Star Wars Battlefront

The newest adventure in the Star Wars universe is more about combat than story – but there’s still a lot for gamers to get their teeth into. There’s a whole load of new gadgets, gizmos and most importantly – guns. We’ve got the lowdown on 5 of the things that we are most looking forward to in the newest game.

1. The Guns

So apparently a dude on the NeoGaf went on a leaking spree, giving away the details of the guns in the new Star Wars Game. There’s a large amount of blasters, launchers and lightsabers to battle with in the new Star Wars including:

E11 - blaster rifle

A280 - blaster rifle

DH17 - blaster pistol

DL44 - heavy blaster pistol

DLT19 - heavy blaster rifle

DLT20a - Longblaster

EE3 - Carbine rifle

Rocket Launcher

SE14c – blaster pistol

T21 – Light repeating blaster

The first thing to notice though is that there aren’t details about the lightsabers yet! But there’s not really any point in putting them in at the moment though because everyone knows that the beam swords will make an appearance in the new game. What’s more interesting and appealing though is the thought of some of the other lightsaber-based weaponry making an appearance like the pikes, or Darth Maul’s double-ended lightsaber!

2. The Massive Battles

In Star Wars Battlefront there will be massive 40 player battles, as well as smaller battle modes for 8 players. You’ll be able to clash with all the guns above and more against a hoard of enemy players. In these brutal brawls players will have to fight to gain and hold objectives from their enemies – you’ll have to use both strategic as well as good old fashioned FPS basics to make sure you get hold of these key locations. Hopefully they can make the objectives both relevant to the Star Wars story and cool as well!

3. The Vehicles

Well unfortunately DICE has already decided that there wont be space battles in Star Wars Battlefront, but fortunately we’ll still be able to get our fix of X-wing dogfights. You’ll be fighting in the lower atmosphere over the skies of Hoth and others. The good news is that some of the humongous list of vehicles that will be in the new Star Wars game are already here:

The T065 X-Wing

Tie Fighter

Lambda Shuttle

Y-Wing

Tie-Bomber

Corellian Corvertte

Nebulon B Frigate

Imperials Star Destroyer

Mon Calamari Capital Ship Home One

AT-ST

AT-AT

Tie Interceptor

74-Z Speeder Bike

There’s already some gameplay footage of these vehicles, what’s really cool is that in the new game you can switch at any time between third and first person mode. It looks so cool shooting down x-wings from inside a tie fighter! You can also take a ride in an AT-AT and mow down the rebel forces, or take the same AT-AT down with the ol’ lasso trick with the rebel forces’ T-47

4. The Locations

So far we’ve seen battles on both Tattoine and Hoth in gameplay demos for the new Star Wars Battlefront. But what we haven’t seen yet is where else they might take the fight. Well thankfully we’ve got a long list of possible places they could go, so let’s have a look at the possible battleground contenders!

Kashyyyk – The home of the Wookies and site of invasion of the separatist forces during the clone wars. Yoda himself turned the tide of the battle, and personally I’d like to turn the tide of the battle as Yoda all over again!

Geonosis – This was the site for the opening battle of the Clone Wars, will Battlefront revisit this event in the canon or leave it in the past?

Mygeeto – A former banking colony that has seen action in the clone wars and the galactic civil war. A player fighting over money has happened before…

Coruscant – A big hitter in the Star Wars universe, Coruscant is considered to be the political and cultural capital of the galatic core. There have been a fair few battles here too, with the murdering of the jedi in operation knightfall and a battle in the outer atmosphere as a part of the clone wars. We know we won’t get the second option because we’re not getting space battles, but we might get the first!

Felucia – The famous starting point of Order 66, which saw the clone troops turn on their Jedi comrades. Here Aayla Secura was killed (the one with the blue tendrils on her head, you know) which was already in Battlefront II, but it could have a place in the reboot too.

Utapau – Another setting of violence from The Clone Wars, which saw Anakin killing a Sith lord. The planet itself though is serene apart from the sinkholes – maybe these could be good obstacles during combat?

Mustafar This volcanic planet has always has a close link to the Sith lords, and it’s also seen its fair share of battles in both the imperial period and during the galatic civil war. There was also the famous duel between Obi-Wan and Vader here, but will we be able to replay any of it?

Kamino – The rise of the clones begun on Kamino. But Boba Fett was there to shut it down, will we be able to relive the glory days of the jetpacked-blaster in Star Wars Battlefront?

Death Star – The big daddy, but also perhaps one of the most unlikely on this list. DICE has already confirmed that there won’t be space battles, so that only leaves a ground battle in the interior of the Death Star – suicide mission anyone?

Polis Massa – The Jedi’s last sanctuary and scene of a major bust-up between the Empire and the Alliance in the beginning of the Galatic Civil War.

Tantive IV – Princess Leia’s ship, which was famously boarded by the empire in their Star Destroyer Devastator, this event has been visited in Star Wars games before, so it might make a re-appearance.

Yavin 4 – One of the moon’s around the gas giant Yavin, it was almost destroyed by the empire using the deathstar, after which the rebels moved their base to Hoth.

5. The Characters

There’re not a lot of details on these either, but so far we do have 3 confirmed characters in Star Wars Battlefront:

Luke Skywalker – No surprises here, of course you can play as the hero of the original trilogy!

Darth Vader – You can pretty read what I said about Luke but exchange hero for villain, no one is surprised by this one, but everyone is hyped for it!

Boba Fett – A fan favourite, the clone bounty hunter and right hand man of Darth Vader excels with his blaster pistol in his hand.

These are the three characters that have been confirmed so far, and they’re all personalities than the fans love, but what other possible characters could there be? Let’s take a look at other possibilities!

Obi-Wan Kenobi – Will you be able to play as Qui-Gon Jinn’s padawan? Or maybe during his final duel with Darth Vader, now that would be awesome.

Yoda – I would be highly surprised if you don’t end up being able to play as Yoda, but usually what’s more difficult is to get the balance right. He’s supposed to be the most powerful Jedi, but I just hope he’s not too good with the force.

Mace Windu – I defy you to find a single person who doesn’t want to play as Mace Windu, who doesn’t want a purple lightsaber? If he doesn’t end up getting added then I will start the petition myself.

Han Solo – Han solo is another character who has seen quite a lot of play in the Star Wars games of old, perhaps with a lot more focus around the blasters in the new battlefront he might not make the cut?

Chewbacca – The idea of a crossbow blaster weapon is just so ridiculous that it has to be in the game, also everyone loves the big hairy dude.

Qui-Gon Jinn – Another franchise stalwart who refuses to go away is Qui-Gon Jinn, will we be able to play the jedi who found the Chosen One?

Count Dooku – Yoda’s confessed biggest success and failure, Dooku became the Sith Lord Tyranus to serve under Palpatine. He was involved in many battles, any of them would be great.

Darth Maul – Fans like to play as good old Maul because they like swinging the double-ended light saber, what would be really cool to play is some of his time being trained under sidious, which so far has only been covered in comics.

Emperor Palpatine – You could always play as the lynchpin of the whole Empire, the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, but please can we avoid the part where he kills Mace Windu?

Anakin Skywalker – They could always take a look at him before he was totally evil, maybe during the first battle of Felucia – now that’s podracing!
