Super Smash Bros Wii U: Diddy Kong Combo And Smash Guide

Need a little help getting an edge on opponents using Diddy Kong in Super Smash Bros.? Well, there are a few helpful guides out there that really dig into the theatrics, tactics and combos of Diddy Kong. For those of you short on time, there are a few notes you can peruse through to help you make the most of the miniature primate.

YouTuber ChimpAct has a pretty cool video that details some of the really fast and useful combos that Diddy Kong can pull off. He also describes the frame data for Diddy on when the attacks start, where the end as well as how long it takes to recover from some moves. Check it out below.

If you don’t have time to watch all 17 minutes. A quick overview is as follows:

-Diddy has weak jabs combo. Opponents can counter out of Diddy’s jab combo.

-Hard to punish someone using forward-tilt attacks because it doesn’t have a lot of recovery frames. For those who don’t know, recovery frames can leave a character vulnerable between attacks.

-Up-tilt can repeat combo all the way into up-air.

-Diddy’s up-tilt can be used to reach people even behind him and has a large reach.

-Diddy’s mid-air attacks are extremely fast, making it convenient to control the air space of a stage, both above a platform and off the platform.

There’s a slightly more nuanced guide from Zero who also offers some useful tips on playing as Diddy, as well as some stage strategies on maneuverability. Check it out below.

Again, if you don’t have time to watch all 17 minutes, the highlights are as follows:

-Throwing a banana allows you to combo into any attack, making it perfect for a combo initiator. You can also use the banana in combination with the up-air for quick kill combos.

-Bananas can be used as traps to force opponents into a punish. You can force them to pick it up and punish them with a forward-tilt or dash combo or you can force them to jump the banana and use a mid-air combo to punish the opponent.

-You can use a side ‘B’ cancel to dash from the ledge of the platform to get across the stage. On Final Destination this is perfect for changing up tactics and out-maneuvering an opponent.

-Diddy’s camping abilities are toned down in place of his fighting skills, combos and tilt attacks all getting a boost.

Diddy’s biggest weakness, according to Zero, is getting hit out of his up ‘B’ attack. So make sure you’re tactical about using it against an aggressive and acute opponent.

As far as advanced techniques go, Phil11 has a quick video detailing how to flip dash. You can check it out below.
