Looking for a combo and tactical strategy guide for playing Mega Man in Super Smash Bros? Well, you’ve landed on the right page. There’s two videos that really break down the highlights of Mega Man’s special abilities as well as some of his more advanced combos that you can take online to beat the living crap out of opponents.
First video comes courtesy of YouTuber Ace Trainer Troy. He drops some novice knowledge for the newbs to help get them acquainted with the basic elements and moves of the Blue Bomber. You can check out his video below to help you with a lot of the core moves and a few nifty strategies and combos you can drop on opponents. Check it out.
Now it’s time to get serious. You want to be able to do some real damage? You’ll need to learn how to drop some big moves on badass opponents.
For the most part you need to recognize that Mega Man is a disruption character. He’s good at throwing opponents off-balance because he doesn’t have traditional combos. Most of his moves come right out of his moveset from his games, which means he’s more-so a mid-range projectile character, similar to Samus when she’s all armored up.
His charged smash also travels just barely half the map. It can be reflected back at Mega Man but it can also be used as a ledge guard since it can hit opponents just below the ledge.
Mega Man also has an up-tilt uppercut that can kill early but has a slow, somewhat laggy finish that leaves him open to be punished. So use it with caution.
A few more detailed ways to utilize Mega Man’s specials are also outlined in a video from the Skuxxed One. He offers a quick rundown with a few extra tidbits explained about frame data, lag, the start and stop time of moves, as well as ledge guarding and air counters. Check it out.
For those of you skimmed through the video or skipped some segments, a quick rundown of the important parts is that back-air slash claw is another quick kill move that can get opponents during mid-air encounters.
Mega Man’s grab move basically has his opponent resting with their butt in his hand. Careful, his grab move consists of using a “power squeeze” on the buttocks of his opponents. This could be triggering for people with less-than-grab-worthy butts in real life who feel ashamed and jealous that they will never get that kind of treatment from a “Mega Man”.
Now his saw blade is pretty interesting. Most people suggest using what they call the “Z fall attack” where you hold the blade in Mega Man’s hand and fall with it pointing toward an opponent. It will deal damage if you land on them successfully and offer a small stun-frame that enables you to execute a quick follow-up combo.
Leaf shield is about as useful as an SJW in a 1970s New York gang brawl with knives and brass knuckles. That is to say, it’s useless. It doesn’t stop incoming attacks very well and doesn’t allow you to do air recoveries if you get knocked off the ledge. His alternate skull shield is good for absorbing projectiles but they don’t do any physical damage to opponents.
