Dragon Ball XenoVerse has you create your very own fighter to bring into the Dragon Ball universe. You have the option to choose between five of the major races; Earthling, Namekian, Frieza Clan, Majin, and of course Saiyan. While they all are clearly very different visually, they each also have specific stat advantages and disadvantages that you may want to consider. Even choosing between genders within a race
For example; fighters of the Majin race have the highest defense in the game but they also have the slowest stamina regeneration. If the stamina meter is full your defense increases. But, choosing a male gives you extra health while reducing your overall speed while the females move much quicker at the cost of a decreased health bar. This makes the Majin race the best for those looking to get up close and personal in Dragon Ball XenoVerse.
Transformations are also something to consider. If you’re a fan of substantially increasing your power while also donning fashionably golden locks that require copious amounts of hair-gel, then the Saiyan race is for you.
All races have a few things to consider ranging from abilities to stats, but it all comes down to your preference. Fighting games tend to be a bit difficult if you use someone well outside your comfort zone. If strength is more your thing than speed is skip the Frieza Clan and go for the Saiyans. Perhaps you plan on relying heavily on items? Namekians will fulfill your needs. It’s much better to take a bit of extra time in the beginning to create the right character for you in Dragon Ball XenoVerse. This will help manage earlier battles since you’ll have very few combat skills to rely on so take your time.
Dragon Ball XenoVerse contains a neat little original story for you to play through that revolves around time travel and altered history. It’s a great way for the folks over at Bandai Namco to put you right in the middle of the Dragon Ball universe, but playing through will show you just why everyone in the anime kept dying in the first place. The enemies you confront later in the game are so quick and powerful, so they’ll have no problem making short work of your created fighter.
This is where Dragon Ball XenoVerse‘s Parallel Quests come in. These are replayable combat missions that present varying tasks, both for fun and for training. Completing any of these missions could potentially net you some items, gear, and most importantly skills. Your character will start out with the basics which will get you far but leave you sorely lacking once you reach anyone that puts up a challenge.
Another thing that makes Parallel Quests well worth investing your time into is the fact that you can search for crafting materials. Activate your scouter and do a quick scan of the area you’re in to locate some of these highly useful items. If you manage to find more than five of these things you also get some extra experience points upon completion of the quest.
Keeping up with the whole RPG angle in the game, Dragon Ball XenoVerse also has a crafting system. This allows you to create items that can be used in battle. For beginners and veterans alike, some of these items will prove to be invaluable when it comes to making your way to the end of a rather rough battle. You have quite a wide range of options, but there are some that you may want to give priority early on in the game.
Since Dragon Ball XenoVerse is first and foremost a fighting game, it isn’t beyond reason to expect injuries to occur. Everyone on the screen has access to the same abilities as you, so you can bet your bottom dollar that they will do their best to beat you down. One advantage you have is the ability to use items in order to bring everything back up. For this you should make sure to craft a bunch of Energy Capsules. They come in several different sizes but “S” should prove sufficient enough early in the game. You’re also able to bring companions during certain activities in Dragon Ball XenoVerse so you may want to invest in some Capsules with the “All” ability. These will share the healing between everyone and save you the hassle of trying to revive teammates.
Of course healing isn’t the only thing you need to concern yourself with. Early on in the game you have very limited Ki and Stamina pools, so bringing something to help refill those in a pinch may be a good idea depending on your play style. You can’t dodge without stamina, and you can’t use specials without ki so consider bringing some Power and/or Aura Capsules to help yourself out.
Keep in mind that you can only equip 4 items. If you equip an item in a slot and have more than one of that item you can still only use it once. If you plan on using Energy Capsules more than once you will have to equip one in as many slots as you desire. You may have tons of items, but the developers of Dragon Ball XenoVerse made sure not to break the balance by giving you free reign. Use your capsules wisely and you’ll be able to keep yourself in the fight.
Remember how we said you can bring other fighters with you to certain activities within Dragon Ball Xenoverse? Well, if you choose fighters that you’ve unlocked over the course of the game they will always be the same level as yourself. That’s not a bad thing, but sometimes you require a bit more power. This is where recruiting comes in.
Scattered around Toki-Toki City, Dragon Ball XenoVerse‘s hub world, are time patrollers that have been created by other players. You can approach them at any time and request their services for a fee. Since Zeni, the Dragon Ball universe’s currency, isn’t exactly difficult to come by, you should definitely consider this option for one particular reason; the fighters you recruit are not limited to your level.
This means you can bring a super powerful Time Patroller to help you out with a particularly tough battle and reap the rewards of victory. It’s okay to admit that sometimes you just aren’t strong enough, and Dragon Ball XenoVerse offers plenty of opportunities to do so. So, bring help, it will benefit you in the long run.
Upon starting Dragon Ball XenoVerse you may have noticed that something we’ve all come to expect in our move sets is missing. That is the ability to charge up your ki to keep you powered up and ready to dish out some serious damage. But, when you start the game the only way to charge up is by inflicting or receiving damage, unless you’re an Earthling in which case you can also patiently wait. But sometimes you don’t want to wait a long time or enter the fray without having some specials ready to light up your adversaries.
It turns out there is in fact a charging skill available, you’re just going to have to either purchase it or learn it. You can find it at the skill shop at the beginning of the game for somewhere around 2000 Zeni. It’s a very useful skill that allows you to quickly charge up your ki whenever you’re in the clear. There are several versions of the skill with varying levels of efficiency, but the one you are able to access early in the game should be more than good enough.
Last, but most certainly not least, is the fact that you aren’t going to just get better on your own. There are some seriously powerful moves available in Dragon Ball XenoVerse that you should definitely try to get your hands on. The thing is, most of the really good ones are locked behind the fighters that perfected them. This is a pretty cool way to get moves such as the Ginyu Squads fighting poses, and variants of the fan-favorite Kamehameha into your skill bank.
What you’ll want to do is pick one of the dozen masters available (you unlock them over time) and complete whatever challenges they give you. None of them are particularly difficult, but you should know that you can’t just complete all of their challenges in one shot. You can only have one master at a time, and each master will make you “increase your power” before giving you the next challenge. They all have 4 skills to teach you, and even have some sweet loot at the end of your training.
It is well worth putting some time into if you want to be the best fighter that Dragon Ball XenoVerse allows you to be. Maybe you can surprise an unsuspecting opponent online by having a rather confusing mix of some of the most powerful skills and abilities available in the game. Not only that, but you’ll also be able to stand your ground against some of the games later enemies.
