Are you a dedicated year one Hunter, firing up Destiny: The Taken King for the first time wondering how to unlock Nightstalker, the Hunter’s new subclass? We got you covered. First things first though, you’re going to want to complete The Taken King’s first mission, The Coming War. After that, return to the tower and the Hunter guardian mentor, Cayde-6, will have a quest for you.
Head back to orbit and there will be a new mission on Venus for you. You’re in search of a Nightstalker named Tevis. You’ll spawn in at Campus 9 and work your way through Vex until you reach the Endless Steps. A transmission from Tevis will reveal that he’s been pulled into the Black Garden somehow and needs assistance. His Ghost however is still on Venus in front of the large gate at the Endless Steps.
Approach his Ghost and tons of Vex will appear. After about five or six waves the Vex will cease and you’ll be able to scan Tevis’ Ghost. The mission will end here and you’ll be automatically send to the Crucible map, Pantheon, in the Black Garden. Here is where phase two of unlocking the Nightstalker subclass begins.
After you arrive at the Black Garden you’ll learn that Cayde-6 is very interested in keeping Tevis alive, but not for the reason you might think. Despite being a cheat and a thief that smells like “thrall spit”, Cayde-6 needs Tevis alive… because he owes him a lot of glimmer.
Make your way through the Black Garden, taking out the Vex on the way, until you find Tevis’ lifeless body. You were too late. However, his bow is still active. A cutscene will trigger and you will have unlocked the Nightstalker subclass, congrats! However you’re not done. You now need to use your new super, Shadowshot to clear out hordes of Vex that stand between you and the exit.
Shadowshot is a super designed with support utility in mind. It condenses the power of void into a single arrow shot fired from a void bow. It charges up as soon as you activate it and will inflict high damage on one target that you hit. You might be thinking, big deal, I can do that with the Golden Gun but better. You’d be right except Shadowshot has an extra trick up its sleeve. It leaves behind void energy that paralyzes and inflicts damage over time on any enemy that was nearby the original shot. When used properly, you can use Shadowshot to immobilize groups of enemies easily.
With this in mind, use Shadow shot to work your way through the groups of Vex. Hit them and finish them off with your gun if needed. Once you’ve worked your way back to the exit the mission will complete and you will be able to return to the tower.
Speak to Cayde-6 to complete the quest and receive the level 40 legendary Hunter cloak, Nightstalker’s Cloak. You’ll have abilities unlocked up through your melee attack which includes your super, jump and grenade.
Enjoy your new subclass in Destiny: The Taken King’s new missions and make sure to start leveling the Nightstalker up with bounties and killing enemies. Safe travels, Nightstalkers.
