Each of the multiplayer maps in Battlefield 4 have actions that can be performed to change how they are played called “Levolutions”. While most of these actions are catastrophic events such as buildings and bridges collapsing, some are just as simple as moving a flag from one point to another. With our guide, we will tell you which levolution action happens on each map, how it affects gameplay, and how to trigger it to make things a little more hectic.
• Paracel Storm, Operation Locker
• Lancang Dam, Flood Zone
• Golmud Railway, Hainan Resort, Zavod 311
• Rogue Transmission, Dawn Breaker, Siege of Shanghai
For the change on this map, there’s not much that you can do to make it come about. It will happen on its own as the match progresses. Just off the beach, between the carrier base and the island, there is battle ship that is crashed up against a spinning turbine. As the match progresses, a storm will slowly start to roll in and eventually, as the skies darken, the turbine will get hit with lightning and catch fire.
If you like, once the turbine has caught fire, you can fire rockets at it to make it fall down quicker; but otherwise, it will eventually topple over by itself, freeing the ship at its base. Once the ship is free, it will float across the remaining stretch of water and crash into the beach, making a new place for the flag to appear.
Also by this time the storm will be in full effect and the waves in the water will be high and choppy. It makes for some tough travel across the sea as well as trying to hit targets a chore.
Once you are inside the prison block, the circular center room on the map called the Panopticon, you can destroy the upper level watch tower by destroying the surrounding lower walls of it. When you destroy each wall with rockets or C4, the large room at the top will come crashing down, crushing anyone who might have been caught under the collapse.
There are also cell doors throughout the level that can be closed and locked from one side, creating a different path for playing needed to take to get from objective to objective. It’s not quite the same levolution as collapsing the center of the map, but it can be a pain when you run up on them to find they are locked and you need to take an alternate route.
The levolution in this map is rather hard to miss. To the central north of the map, you’ll be able to see a large dam that is already cracking apart near its top. To take the rest of it down, you will need to hit it hard and heavy with all types of rockets, or preferably tank shells and airplane missiles.
It’s not the easiest of levolutions to set off, but for every couple of hits that do damage, you will see rubble fall from the wall and the opening get wider and wider the more it sustains. Eventually, when the dam is near collapse, a siren will blare letting you know it is about to come down. Once the dam has collapsed, it will send a giant pile of rubble crashing down at the base to block the passage there.
At the north edge of the map, near the half way mark, there is a spot where you can see a small gush of water coming out of the freeway retaining wall. Much like the dam, this wall will take a lot of damage to break, but once it does, look out below!
Hammer on the spot where the water is coming out with rockets, tank rounds, and just about anything that goes boom, and the more you hit it, the more water that will come out. Eventually once you have hit it enough, the wall will break and a flood of water will rush through, flooding the entire area.
Once the water is freed, the map will take on a different feel as most of it will now be flooded and certain routes will be cut off with new ones being opened. Also, there is lots and lots of water. Lots. And. Lots.
The levolution for level this isn’t quite like the others. There’s no real destruction that change paths or create havoc. Instead for this map there is a train in the center that when boarded by a team, it will then begin to move towards that team's base.
It may not seem like much, but having a capture point closer to your base is a huge advantage over the other team. There are also explosive stockpiles scattered around the map that can be detonated via a laptop or just by shooting them. These are usually found near the red blocks on the sides of the roads and can be useful in creating traps for the other team.
At the center of this map, there is a hotel that can be found. Although you can’t destroy the entire hotel, you can take down a good portion of it to create some chaos. Each side- the left and right- of the hotel can be taken down when you destroy the walls surrounding the bases.
It doesn’t take much to destroy the walls, but there are quite a few of them to destroy to get the balconies to fall down. Once the sides have been destroyed, the inside of the hotel will change with hallways blocked off and other routes changed, making the path to get to the flag inside altered.
At the center of this map, there is a large smoke stack in between two large buildings- Manufacturing and Assembly. When you enter the Manufacturing building, along the side wall near a large missile head, there is a laptop on a table in front of some computer monitors.
When you activate the laptop, a timer will start and you will have 3 minutes until an explosion goes off and causes the smoke stack to collapse. The laptop can be turned on and off by multiple players delaying the countdown and making it unknown when it will detonate without looking at the laptop.
There are also crushers inside the Assembly building that can be activated by turning on a generator at the far end of the building. When activating it, it will cause crushers to set off, immediately killing anyone caught underneath them.
The levolution in this map is one of the easiest to set off and one of the most impressive to watch happen. At the far end of the map there is a large satellite dish with a receiver hanging above it by wires. To the east of the map, there will be a concrete block with large cables coming out of it, and another concrete block on the far side. When both are destroyed, the cables will cease to hold the receiver above the dish.
It will come crashing down, causing the flag under the dish to be more obstructed, changing the flow of the map. It will take more than a few C4 charges or rockets to destroy the cables from the blocks, but once it goes, it is a pretty spectacular sight to behold.
On the main street that runs from one end of the map to the other, there are two open hatches in the street at each end. Inside each of the hatches will be a pipe that you can turn on to build up pressure within it. There will be labels with A and B and a light on each to let you know if the other pipe has been turned on.
Once both pipes have been activated, the pipe will blow and along with multiple explosions in the street, the large bridge that spans the main street will also collapse, causing the flag on it to change locations. Like the Smoke Stack levolution, this can be turned on and off, so when it will actually detonate and go off can be an uncertainty.
This levolution is the most well-known of the bunch and is the collapse of the large skyscraper in the center of the map. To make the beast of a building coming crashing down, simply go to the front of the building and you will see 4 pillars at the entrance.
Destroy these 4 pillars with any explosives you have—although preferable to be in a tank—as it can take a bit of time, but once each pillar has been destroyed enough, the entire building will come crashing down and bring along with it the flag point that was on top of it. Now to get to the capture point you don’t need to go all the way to the top and it can be a much more furious battle with it on ground level.
