Temple Run Walkthrough

Temple Run Unofficial Guide by Mongoose General for SuperCheats.com

Temple Run is one of the most popular smartphone games, getting much of its charm from the fact that it never ends! There is no limit to the amount of time you can play for, with the objective being simply to run for as long as possible. There are various obstacles in the way that you need to slide under or jump over, as well as tight corners to navigate by swiping across the screen.

The premise behind the game is that you have taken a golden idol from a temple. Upon doing this, a horde of monkeys begins chasing your character. You must then run out of the labyrinthine passageways for as long as possible. Unfortunately for the game's protagonist, the game is unwinnable! It is simply an effort to get as high a score as possible.

The game is now available for free on iOS and Android. You can collect and purchase coins to unlock further content should you wish to.

Currency

Temple Run is now a free game, but relies on a store where you can purchase upgrades using real money. You can also get these upgrades by collecting Coins that are dotted all over the game's levels. The coins are in fact diamond-shaped icons, and depending on their color, are worth different amounts. These amounts are:

Yellow: 1 Coin
Red: 2 Coins
Blue: 3 Coins

The blue, two-point coins will only appear after 1,000 meters.

The red, three-point coins will only appear after 2,000 meters.

Scoring and Power-ups

The scoring system in Temple Run is calculated based on the distance you have traveled and the percentage of total coins that you collect.

Upgrades and Power-ups

Using the coins you have collected, it is possible to purchase upgrades and powerups to improve your character's scoring. You cannot possibly hope to compete with the best Temple Run scores without using plenty of items. You can see a list of these below:

Utilities

Resurrection ($500) – This allows you to resurrect your character once, after you have activated it. Note that this utility only lasts for 30 seconds - after that you will die as normal, so ensure you only use it during really tricky sections. Double-tap the screen to activate it and begin the 30 seconds.

Boost ($2,500) – You are able to boost 1,000 meters at the start of the run.

Mega Boost ($10,000) – You are able to boost 2,500 meters at the start of the run.

Best Combination

Arguably the two best power-ups are the Coin Magnet, and the Coin Values power-ups. Together, these can really affect your final score.

Unlockable Characters

You begin the game with only Guy Dangerous unlocked. You can purchase further characters from the Temple Run store for the value indicated below.

Scarlett Fox ($10,000)

Barry Bones ($10,000)

Karma Lee ($25,000)

Montana Smith ($25,000)

Francisco Montoya ($25,000)

Zack Wonder ($25,000)

There is no difference between the characters, except for the obvious variance in their appearances.

Double Resurrection Objective

A difficult objective for some people to get is the Double Resurrection objective.

To complete it, you need to first purchase two resurrections from the store - you can find them in the Utilities section.

You can then start a new run. As soon as it starts, double-tap the screen to use the first of your two ressurections. This is indicated by a pair of wings around your character - these last for 30 seconds or until you die. To achieve the objective, you should die as soon as possible after activating the resurrection. You then, once revived, need to keep running for at least 1000 meters or 30 seconds until you are able to use the resurrection again. Kill yourself for the second time and you will have unlocked this objective.

Getting High Scores

It is a good idea to stock up on plenty of resurrections before starting a prime run. This will allow you to keep going after any silly mistakes as long as you activate the ressurections during difficult sections.

Upgrade the Coin Magnet, as this is the best power-up for achieving high scores. Combined with upgrading the coin values, you can get some very impressive runs by following this tip.

Try to avoid sliding. If you have the option of jumping instead, do that. This gives you more time to analyze the obstacles up ahead. When you slide, the camera moves and it can be hard to see what it going to come at you next.

Slow yourself down. If you are far enough ahead of those pesky monkeys, but are at a point where the game's speed is getting intense, you should try to slow yourself down. You can do this by deliberately allowing your character to trip. Normally, if the monkeys are not visible on your screen, you can trip once and they won't catch you up. This is a good tactic if everything is getting too much with the speed.

Straight Line Cheat

There is a cheat where you can glitch the game into allowing you to run in a straight line. This is quite tricky to do but to perform it (which although doesn't allow you to save your score, you can take a screenshot on some phones to show off to your friends!) follow these instructions:

1. Enter the options menu and turn on the Tutorial. This gives you a simple set of turns and allows the glitch to be performed.
2. Start a run. As you approach the firt corner, double swipe on the screen as quickly as you can. You need to make sure the game registers both swipes, but do it very fast.
3. Your character will spin around and begin running in a straight line. It is still possible to die by swiping into the wall and letting the monkeys catch you, but you should be able to just leave the game alone and your character will keep on running!

You really need to have purchased some power-ups in advance to allow you to get big points on this, as otherwise you won't really come across any.

Unlimited Coins and Other Cheats

There is a hack available on Jailbroken devices to get unlimited coins. This is not an authorised cheat or glitch though and subverts the game's marketplace structure. You obviously leave yourself open to the usual repurcussions for doing this to your device. SuperCheats does not condone this practise therefore we won't link to anywhere where you can find this kind of thing. The same applies to any cheats you have heard about where you access the 'keyboard' during the title screen - this does not exist unless your device has been jailbroken. There are no legitimate cheat codes that you have to enter into the game.
