Device 6 is a pretty unorthodox game, to say the least. There are no zombies to kill or any gems to match, but there’s a lot of exploration, puzzle solving and reading to do. Yes, reading, plus a lot of listening as well. By reading through the narrative, there will be areas where the text will change orientations and directions, and you must twist your head and/or your device to comprehend things. There are also audio cues that change once you’ve reached a certain area, or if certain requirements have been met.
All of these can sound a bit confusing, but with this guide, you will definitely be able to finish this mind bending interactive puzzle game in no time. So let’s get started with the first chapter of the title.
Chapter 1 – Awakening
The game starts off with the main character, Anna, waking up in a room. After navigating through a few pages of text, players will encounter the first part of the first puzzle that you will encounter. This will come in the form of a text depicting a picture of an orange with the number “2001” written on it. Keep this in mind as this serves as one of the clues that you will use to solve the chapter’s first problem.
Next, you will encounter an area where there are etchings and paintings. Navigate this page and look through the windows, and you will see the words “hope”, “five”, and lies. Pass through the cabinet which allows you to press left and right buttons, as well as the computer that allows you to enter a four digit code. Go to the Master’s Voice room where you will be able to hear a recording. Here, you will be able to decode that the combination can be solved by adding “a framed number where red meets yellow” (the orange) and “a number between hope and lies” (five).
For the last number in the equation, the channel that he’s on, move forwards further the surveillance camera and navigate words the photo where there is a recorder. Take the number on the photo, fifty-six, and add that to five and 2001. Add the result, which would be “2062”, and input that into the computer from earlier. You will now be led to a device that will display either “ELLE” or “ARE” each time that you press it. Record the combination and use that on the cabinet by pressing on the left and right buttons accordingly. The combination, if you did not jot it down, is: LRRLLLRLRL.
Once you have successfully entered the combination, you will be led to a questionnaire. You can answer in any which way you like, and you will then be awarded 100 points. The chapter will also end.
Chapter 2 – The Story of the Three Bears
The chapter opens up with three bears that are having a conversation. Papa Bear will state that Mama Bear’s password is “069”. However, this is wrong, and based on the conversation, it can be inferred that “069” is Papa Bear’s password, instead. It can also be heard that Baby Bear tried to log into Mama Bear’s account, but got it upside down. This means that Mama Bear’s password is actually “690” Lastly, Baby Bear’s password is Mama Bear’s and Papa Bear’s put together, making Bay Bear’s password “759”.
Skip through the pictures of targets and other objects, and go straight to the panel where the three bears’ names are listed down. Using the controls enter the passwords in their appropriate areas. Now, go to the text near the targets from before. The narrative will state that Anna would trip over a lever, and a sight will now be activated. Use the sight to navigate the three targets and you will be able to see symbols on their chests.
Go to the panel at the end of the three targets and enter the symbol according to the numbers indicated within the corresponding targets’ heads. If you can’t see these, the combination is Square, Happy Face, and Heart. Like in the first chapter, you will be asked questions and would be awarded 100 points at the end of the chapter.
Chapter 3 – Tiptoe Through the Tulips
Go through the text and navigate to the part where you will be able to get a Venetian mask. This is a special item that can be taken on and off as you please, and would be a very important part in solving this chapter. Go to the Life and Death wall and wear the mask. Take note of the letters that are hidden whenever you wear the mask, which spells “FORTY MINUTES”.
Go back to the statues near the beginning of the chapter, and by looking at them using the Venetian mask, you can clearly see the word “MIDNIGHT” spelled out. The puzzle, however, is not yet complete. Go to the area where there is a dot that is followed by several smaller dotted lines, and wearing the mask will reveal a hidden section along that broken. Once you have reached this location, the Botanical Research Facility, take off the mask and you will see a sign which reads “Before the Hours, South. After the Minutes, East.”
Go back to the previous area and move until you have reached the Time Compass Gazebo. Position the clock face in the required positions and press the bottom button to confirm it. The combination is six o’ clock (South), twelve o’ clock (midnight), at forty minute mark (forty minutes), and finally, three o’ clock (East). This will end the chapter, but not before you answer some questions just like last time.
Chapter 4 – An Inverted Funeral
Listen to the voice of the price, particularly about letting in the moon, the head of a black dog, and a smile from the stranger. Go to the recorder and switch to channel 2. While the channel is playing, a new section will appear. This is the Black Chapel, and you will know that you have found this area as the text is flipped over. The backwards channel will now play normally, and you will have to listen to the ramblings about Agent Beta and Agent Alpha, as it will be important later on.
Go through the parts where you will find a piece of paper. Take note of the text where it is said that the solution “IS MY EX”. Lastly, go to the part where there are changing images of sets of triangles and squares that represent different objects. The backwards recording, the piece of paper, and the images are the important pieces that will allow you to solve the three sets of puzzles within the chapter.
Go to the puzzle and solve the first one by inputting only the head of the black dog, the full moon, and the smile of the stranger in the corresponding squares. The next puzzle is more complicated, however, and this can be solved by listening to the recording at the Black Chapel. The solution to this puzzle is to have a house with no roof at the top center square, a house with a chimney at the upper right corner, a house with no doors at the middle right, and another house with no roof at the lower left corner while all other spaces are blank. In solving the third and last puzzle, all you have to do is to create lines that will connect the letters I to S, M to Y, and E to X. You can refer to the piece of paper that you had to guide you.
Upon solving the above three puzzles, the chapter will end, and all you have to do is place your device on a flat horizontal surface in order to be able to move on.
Chapter 5 –The Show
Navigate through the texts until you get to the part where you will be asked for a HAT ID. A little bit of intuition here is important, as you are called “two forty-eight” by the guide, and you are labelled as Player249. Also, the guide mentioned that he “came before you”, so all you have to do is input “247” at the panel after the cutscene has been triggered.
Read through the messages in the device and look for the password to the Men’s Room. You will see through a partial message that the clue to this puzzle can be found in the routes, so you should check out the maps and surveillance routes. By tracing your fingers from source to destination at the map for each of the aforementioned routes, you will be able to discover the these routes actually form actual numbers, specifically “7141”. Got to the Men’s Room and input this into the panel. A successful input will finish the chapter. Again, there are some questions to answer before you are able to move on. Take note that you really don’t have to touch your right ear to solve one of the questions here, but it would be great if you would.
Chapter 6 – Technical Perfection
There’s not really a lot that you have to do in this chapter, but here you will be able to discover that you, too, are part of the simulation. The only part where you will actually be able to interact with the game is when you are tasked to press the Off button, after which a lengthy text would be displayed. Agree to disagree to the final statement made in the game; it doesn’t matter which option you choose at it will still play out the same. You will again be provided with 100 points, just like in the past five chapters.
Chapter 6 – Epilogue
Simply go through the text, and you will be able to find out Anna’s ultimate fate. At the end of this chapter, which is also the end of the game, you will be offered various items that you can buy using points earned. However, as the maximum number of points that you can get in the game is 600, the only thing that you can buy is the Precious Doll. Don’t expect to have anything delivered to you “on the next business day”, though.
