Card games on mobile devices are a dime a dozen these days, which is why it’s such a breath of fresh air to see something as fun and unique as Card Wars: Adventure Time. See Finn, Jake, and the rest of the merry crew as they battle it out using cards depicting some weird creatures, landscapes, buildings, and spells. What’s even better is that the creatures actually fight each other on the board. While Card Wars is under single mode only, there’s no risk of that feeling of repetition as each battle plays out differently depending on your strategy. It’s time to prove that you’re the best card battler around with Card Wars: Adventure Time…but don’t go dueling just yet without reading our comprehensive guide.
Gameplay
Card Wars: Adventure Time is a card collection and battle game where in players must go through multiple campaigns by battling against the computer in a one on one match. The goal of the game is to completely empty your opponent’s health, and this is done by placing enemies on lanes and attacking. Both players will be able to attack and defend as well as conjure up different spells as well as place buildings that can help turn the tables for them.
Currency earned may be used to get new cards as well as craft new ones. New cards may also be acquired as rewards, and these will help you further strengthen your deck. However, the things that will really make you win matches are how you play your deck and how you use them strategically in reaction to your opponent’s moves.
Currency
Coins and gems are the two currencies available within the game. Coins are awarded each time players win matches or when excess cards are being sold, while gems are awarded rather sparingly and often need real money to acquire. Coins are used for crafting cards into newer and more powerful ones while gems are used for purchasing chests which would contain cards of differing strengths. The more gems you use, the better the card would probably be. However, players can survive without spending premium currency for new cards, although they would of course have a harder time winning than those who did.
Leveling Up
Participating in matches will earn players experience points. Once enough have been earned, players will level up, which would in turn cause both health and deck capacity to increase. This means that you’ll be able to take more damage as well as carry more cards with you. Leveling up might also get to unlock more content within the game, so make sure to keep leveling up so that you would be able to improve both your character and your deck.
Campaigns
Card Wars: Adventure Time is a linear game with set campaigns to conquer. Winning stages will earn the players stars, and previous levels may be repeated in order to unlock and win new cards and other items. However, it should be pointed out that succeeding stages will only get opened up once previous ones have already been accomplished. Also, battles will require a heart, which regenerates at a rate of one every fifteen minutes. Thus, make sure that you have a heart in order to play for longer, and keep in mind that you can only carry five hearts at a time. Along the way, players will get to earn new hero cards that they can swap with their existing ones, among other items.
Landscapes
Players are able to set the landscape of their half of the board. Players must take into consideration the type of cards that they’ll be bringing into battle as only creatures of the same type can be placed on a particular landscape. Players can toggle the selection of landscapes that they would like to bring in the Card Menu. Players should choose wisely so that the landscapes that would appear would be more advantageous to them given the cards that they have and the hero that they are playing as.
Abilities
Different heroes have different abilities and these are accessible after a certain number of turns have been made. Most hero abilities will affect all or select cards that you have on your board, but there are some variations as well. Once your character starts flashing, this indicates that your ability is ready for use. Make sure that you use these abilities at the right place and time for maximum effectivity.
Creatures
Creatures are your main forces, as they will be the ones that will attack either the creature directly opposite them,, or your opponent. They will also be the ones who will be defending you, so make sure that you have a formidable frontline not only with regards to attack, but health as well.
Creatures also have Floops, which are basically abilities that can be triggered and can either affect the player’s card or cards, or the opponent’s. Read through the flop ability and trigger them when the situation calls for it. Summoning creatures and using flops both use up Magic, of which players are supplied with five for each turn.
Buildings
Buildings are special types of cards that cannot be destroyed. Buildings give boosts to creatures that are in the same lane as them, and they have the advantage of not being limited to the landscape that they are being placed on. While powerful, buildings are useless unless there is a creature on the lane that they are occupying.
Spells
Spells are cards that do not need to be placed on the board and can target specific card or cards either to boost or downgrade their abilities or even damage them. Like creatures, spells would require magic before they can be triggered. Spells are very powerful cards to add onto your deck, but having just these cards would make an unbalanced hand since there would be no creatures to defend your hero.
Getting Cards
Players can get cards in a variety of ways. They can get new cards via loot from defeated enemies, but these can only be collected once players win the match. Another way is to craft them, where in requisite cards must be collected and the required number of coins must be spend. Lastly, players can spend premium currency in order to acquire cards of differing strengths depending on the number of gems that they are willing to spend.
Cards can be arranged in any which way. However, players should take note of the card capacity which would limit the number of cards that they can bring into battle. This capacity would be increased each time players level up, so players can bring more cards into play.
Battle Wheel
When defending or attacking, a Battle Wheel will be spun, and players can stop the wheel by tapping at the screen. Where the cursor stops will determine the outcome of the action onscreen. On attacks, resulting spins will result in good attacks, missed attacks, and critical hits. On the other hand, spins on defense will result in blocks which would reduce damage taken, full damage hits, and even counter attacks. Using the Battle Wheel effectively will require timing, although this feature can be turned off in the Settings, after which the results of each individual battle will be randomly settled.
