Clan Wars is a new feature provided by Supercell for the massively popular strategy game Clash of Clans. There are a lot of new things introduced here, and all require proper planning and management of the members of your clan. This is an all out war that takes place over two days, and the winners will be eligible to win some great prizes, as well as glory as the superior clan. A lot of work must be done before you can lay claim to that title, however, and here’s our guide on how you can make the most out of each war that you participate in. Time to go to war with Clan Wars!
Gameplay
Clan Wars is a feature within Clash of Clans which allows players that are part of a clan to battle other clans. Players have the option to arrange their War Bases, which are representations of their own villages, for optimum defensive performance. They must also be able to produce troops as well optionally donate troops to their allies’ respective War Bases in order to strengthen them. Over two days, players will prepare and then attack enemy War Bases, and the team with the most stars collected will be declared the winner and would get the most loot.
Coordination between clan members is very important, as well as scouting other War Bases and watching replays of previous attacks. This will allow players to strategize and make sure that each attack counts. Of course, preparing your troops and War Bases for impending attacks and campaigns against other War Bases is also very crucial for the mutual benefit of your clan.
Participants
Only leaders and co-leaders of a clan would be able to initiate Clan Wars. They would then be matched up against a clan of similar strength. Take note that trophies won will not be counted, and the game utilizes a formula which factors in the strengths of your troops and defenses when choosing a random opponent for you. Players also do not have the option to select an opponent or to choose a different one once another clan has already been chosen.
The number of War Bases, representing individual players, will always be balanced. Excess players will be put in Spectator Mode which would bar them from influencing the war. One player may only participate in one Clan War at a time, and players that have left a clan in the middle of an ongoing war may not choose to join another until the current Clan War has been concluded. This applies even when the player has already joined a new clan.
War Bases
War Bases are a representation of your village. Your War Base does not generate resources, and the buildings and structures within your War Base would be at the same level at the maximum complete levels of their counterparts within your village. Players cannot build directly within their War Base, however, as this must be done in the village. Likewise, clan castles within your War Base must be refilled separately from the one in your village, and traps and heroes would not need to be checked upon as they would be ready for any attacks once Battle Day begins.
All War Bases, friendly and hostile, will be placed and arranged in a War Map. The War Map arranges teams along both sides, with the War Bases arranged from top to bottom in terms of level. Players can view other War Bases in order to formulate better strategies for attacking and defending, as well as to donate troops to other War Bases to bolster their defense.
Preparation Day
Preparation commences on the first day of the two day affair that is Clan Wars. Here, players can scout enemies, rearrange their War Bases, and send out troops to allies. Troop requests are always open, although players can modify their donation requests so that allies can provide you with what you need.
Planning and preparation is very important during this stage, as preparation can only be done during the 24 hours of the first day. After this, all arrangements will be locked. Thus, proper planning both for your own War Base as well as for your allies’ is crucial, as having them fall during enemy attacks will hurt you as much as having your our base destroyed.
Battle Day
Battle Day happens right after Preparation Day. Here, players can still scout enemy War Bases, but they now have the option to attack using any troops that they have trained in their village. Each member of the clan may only attack twice during Battle Day, but they must attack two different War Bases. The game recommends the best target for you, but this should not always be followed, especially if you feel that you would not be able to take on that particular base and win convincingly.
On the other hand, it is also very important to note that some of your allies may be weaker than you, and that the only War Base that they can attack successfully would be the weakest ones. Thus, players must weigh in their options and clan members must discuss their strategy before actually attacking in order to maximize the results of each attack. A recommended strategy would be to attack either the highest or lowest as well as the middle bound War Base that you feel that you can take on. Battle Day will end regardless of whether you have used up all or none of the attacks that you are allotted.
As players can attack other bases, enemies can attack their own War Base as well. This is where their preparation during Preparation Day comes into play. Players also need not worry as their traps reload automatically, and they do not need to replenish defensive troops or heal Heroes each time they are attacked. Likewise, their shields, should one be currently be active in their village, will not protect them from attacks, although they should also not worry as they would not lose any loot even if their War Base gets destroyed completely.
Stars
Players can earn stars in the same way that they do during PvP battles. They can earn a maximum of three stars during each battle, depending on how much of the enemy’s base they have destroyed. Thus, each individual player can earn a maximum of six stars during Battle Day. However, players should also take note that only the best attack for each particular enemy War Base will count towards the clan’s total score during the war, and this would be based on the highest number of stars won from each War Base that has been attacked.
This means that clan members cannot simply attack the weakest enemy and hope to win by claiming three stars each. This is because the enemy need only to collect more than three stars to win the war. With that, players must diversify and attack multiple War Bases and try to get more stars for each battle in order to rack up a higher total of stars. The team with the highest number of stars by the end of Battle Day will be declared the victor.
Prizes
Players will win loot for each successful attack that they make. However, the best prize that they would get is if they are to win the war itself. Clan members of the winning team will earn bonus loot, while the winning team would earn significantly less. Ties, on the other hand, will have both teams winning prizes somewhere in between. Winning loot during Clan Wars is a great way to gather additional resources for your own purposes, so make sure that you are able to join or lead a team that will be very active in this new feature, and that you would be able to work and communicate well towards a common goal against the toughest of clans out there.
