Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past Walkthrough [Guide]

Comic book fans will know that the recent film X-Men: Days of Future Past was based off the Uncanny X-Men storyline of the same name, and while geeks can argue on and on as to what they did wrong and what they did right, comic book fans and non-fans alike can take pleasure in this new hack and slash game featuring everyone’s favorite mutants. Here, players can take control of their X-Men of choice as they beat up mutant hating humans, giant Sentinels, and several other opponents using their powerful mutant abilities. Here’s our guide that will get you right into the action of this uncanny game.

Gameplay
Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past is a hack and slash game where in players must defeat various enemies and reach the end of each level. Players can do basic attacks as well as powerful moves that highlight their respective mutant abilities. Experience acquired from tech can be used to customize your heroes’ abilities and certain actions will also unlock special alternative costumes in order to dress up your X-Men in different attire.

Controls
Controls within Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past are basic for a game of its kind. Players can move left and right as well as jump, although double tapping the jump button will allow players to do double jumps that can help them reach higher ledges as well as avoid obstacles. There’s also a dedicated attack button as well as swipe combinations that can trigger the heroes’ special attacks. Players can also do attacks while jumping, and this will allow them to fall at a slower pace.

Heroes
Players can get to unlock and utilize different heroes during each mission of the game, although some stages will require them to use only one particular X-Man. Mutants included within the game are Wolverine, Shadowcat, Cyclops, Colossus, and the Scarlet Witch, with other characters such as Storm, Polaris, and Magneto coming soon.

Each particular hero has special abilities specific to them such as Cyclops’ optic beams and Wolverine’s healing factor. Take note, however, that using specific attacks will deplete the energy meter located at the top left corner of the screen, although this resource regenerates over time. More heroes will be unlocked once players progress through the missions, and players can then choose them to play the others levels. They must also be upgraded individually from a shared pool of XP points.

Experience
Players can earn Experience, or XP points, by destroying crates and other objects within the game. They can also earn this by defeating enemies and by attacking tech which are displayed as glowing canisters that float in the air, although some canisters would refill your health. Lastly, there are XP stations that players can stand in, which in turn would provide players with tons of Experience. Players can also earn more XP points by maintaining combos, but spending time without attacking anything, getting hit, or moving to another area within the game will have your combo start from scratch.

Experience is used for unlocking and upgrading special attacks as well as passive abilities for your hero. The first upgrade will make a particular ability available, while further upgrades will make it more effective. Experience may also be spent to purchase additional costumes that you can equip your hero with. Alternate costumes, however, will not increase your X-Men’s stats, so make these the least priority especially if you have limited XP points to spend.

Missions
Uncanny X-Men: Days of Future Past follows a linear mission scheme, although players can repeat missions that they have already completed. Players would be able to earn up to three X-Marks for each mission, and this would depend on how well they performed in the level. Factors would include number of enemies defeated, number of containers collected, lore acquired, and how much health they have remaining. Only by completing the current mission will the next one be unlocked, and players can switch characters in between missions if this is allowed for the selected stage.

Lore
Lores are sets of collectibles that players can collect throughout each mission. Some of these are in plain sight, while players must access hidden or hard to reach areas in order to find others. The current mission will display the number of lores available within the stage. Lores include original comic covers from the Uncanny X-Men series, character biographies, and even original concept art of the game itself. Some lores are even essential for unlocking additional costumes for your X-Men. Once you have finished a mission, make sure to come back both to earn the maximum X-Marks and to collect any lores that you may have missed.

Tips and Tricks
While players can stick with specific X-Men as their favorites, it would be good to at least use and unlock the abilities of all X-Men available. You’ll never know as to when a certain hero would be better suited for you, so it is recommended that you try them all. Try also to even out upgrades for one or all of your heroes. This will allow you to have decent all around abilities regardless of the situation, and you would not have to rely heavily in just one type of attack.

Try and search every nook and cranny within the game. You might just get to find some lore as well as crates or XP stations that you can get tons of Experience from. Don’t forget to explore as the game has no time limit. Also, use up some time to know your enemies’ attack patterns. This is especially important for boss battles as they can deal lots of damage with just one strike. Observe their movements and attack only if you have an opening. Make sure that you have enough energy, though, so that you can take full advantage with every strike. Lastly, be very aware of your surroundings as you can use these to put yourself in the best position to dodge attacks and to launch an offensive easily against even the toughest of bosses.
