1. What is The Crucible?
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Bungie came up with a fancy name for everything in Destiny. Basically, The Crucible is the PvP in Destiny. You unlock it at level 5. Talk to the Crucible Handler in the Tower when you reach level 5 to unlock The Crucible.
Once you have the Crucible unlocked, you will only be able to do Control. Complete a single Control match to unlock the next game mode. Keep doing this until you have unlocked all four of the game modes in the Crucible.
The Crucible has Crucible bounties that ask you to do specific Crucible-based challenges. Complete these challenges and then take the bounties back to the Tower to get more XP, Crucible reputation, and Crucible marks.
Crucible marks are currency that you can use to purchase items from the Tower from certain vendors, such as the Crucible Handler and the Crucible Quartermaster. You get 1-3 depending on your performance, with 3 awarded to you every time that you win. You can only get 100 Crucible marks in any given week.
Crucible reputation is used to rank up your Crucible level. To see what level you are in the Crucible, speak to either the Crucible Handler or the Crucible Quartermaster on the Tower. If you are wearing class armor that belongs to one of the three factions in the game, you will level up your rank with them instead of with the Crucible/Vanguard. The purpose of having a Crucible rank is that the higher levels of Crucible ranks allow you to purchase better gear from vendors.

Destiny features a variety of maps, with some tailored to specific game modes.
Here is a list of multiplayer maps in Destiny:
Anomaly (Moon)
Bastion (Mars)
Blind Watch (Mars)
Burning Shrine (Mercury)
Exodus Blue (Earth)*
Firebase Delphi (Mars)
First Light (Moon)
Rusted Lands (Earth)
Shores of Time (Venus)
Twilight Gap (Earth)
These are all the maps that are currently available in the game. * denotes a map that is exclusive to the PlayStation versions of Destiny. Undoubtedly, more multiplayer maps will be added to the game in future updates.

3. Game Modes
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
There are four main game modes in The Crucible at any given time. Bungie has done a few other game modes as well. Those three are:
-Salvage
-Combined Arms
-The Iron Banner
Salvage is 3v3. The goal is to collect relics. To collect the relics, your team needs to stand within their radius. You don’t get the points unless the relic is completely captured. The opposing team has the chance to disable your device that is collecting the relic. They don’t get any significant amount of points from this, but it also denies your team points.
Combined Arms is basically the same as Clash, except vehicles and heavy ammo both spawn a lot more.
Finally, The Iron Banner is a special event mode that makes it so the stats of your gear actually matter in The Crucible.
There are four game modes that are static and will always be available to play in The Crucible.

CONTROL
=======
TYPE: 6v6 Team Objective
>>Fireteam: 1-6
>>Competitive Multiplayer
Rewards: Crucible Gear, Crucible Reputation, Crucible Marks
Control is a mode like Domination from Call of Duty. There are three points on the map, designated as A, B, and C, and the goal is to control each of these points.
To make your team gain control of A, B, or C, you and your teammates need to stand within the radius of the flag there. If the flag is grey, that means that no team controls the flag. If this is the case, once the number reaches 100, the point is captured and the flag will turn blue (regardless of what team you are assigned to).
If the flag is red, that means the other team controls it. You will need to stand in the radius twice as long in order to capture the flag.
There are some tips to this mode. First of all, if you see your flag color deplete or the enemy flag color of red start to fill up, then that means that there is an enemy standing near that flag. That means that they are within the radius, so you should throw grenades near the objective or, better yet, if you have an offensive-based Super Charge, unleash that onto the dominated point.
Speaking of Super Charges, the Titan class is one of the best for Control. Specifically, the Titan subclass that allows them to lay down a large purple dome shield for their Super Charge. Put this down on one of the objectives to protect yourself and your teammates from incoming fire.
You can’t just hope to capture points and play badly in terms of kills and deaths in this mode. Unlike other versions of this game type, deaths and kills both matter, so a team can still gain a lot of points by getting a lot of kills, even if the other team controls two of the objective points.
Control matches are usually played on the larger maps, but not all of the time.

CLASH
=====
TYPE: 6v6 Team Deathmatch
>>Fireteam: 1-6
>>Competitive Multiplayer
Rewards: Crucible Gear, Crucible Reputation, Crucible Marks
If you are familiar at all with first-person shooters, then Clash should be a game mode that is right at home to you. Clash is Team Deathmatch, or at least the Destiny version of it.
The basic rules are the same. There are two teams. The team that is able to kill the most enemies on the other team to reach the point limit or until the time limit concludes wins.
Clash matches are usually played on the larger maps, but not all of the time.

RUMBLE
======
TYPE: Free for All
>>Fireteam: 1-3
>>Competitive Multiplayer
Rewards: Crucible Gear, Crucible Reputation, Crucible Marks
In most multiplayer games, if you are in a party with others, you won’t be able to access the Free for All modes. Destiny will allow you to play Rumble with other people in your party if you so wish.
It’s a 6 person Free for All game mode that typically takes place on the smaller maps.

SKIRMISH
========
TYPE: 3v3 Team Deathmatch
>>Fireteam: 1-3
>>Competitive Multiplayer
Rewards: Crucible Gear, Crucible Reputation, Crucible Marks
My favorite game mode in all of Destiny is, by far, Skirmish. This is a 3v3 multiplayer versus mode. It isn’t just straight-up deathmatch rules, however. There is an added wrinkle where you can revive your fallen teammates to get 50 points.
A smart way to play is to immediately run to where your teammates have died. Hold down the X button to revive them while simultaneously firing at any enemies. Even if you go down, it is likely that you will get your teammate back up so that they can finish off any enemies and get you revived right away.
