1. Introduction
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
At the beginning of Destiny, you are asked to create your character. Besides choosing how they will look, you will also choose which of the three classes in the game they will be. This is the most important part of the creation process.

You have three different choices when it comes to choosing your class. Each class has two subclasses, so in essence, there are practically six classes to max out in the game.

This guide features the full skill strees for each subclass. The skills unlock in a linear fashion. Whenever you have enough XP for a new skill that skill will be unlocked.

Not all skills can be equipped at the same time. Some base skills will always be unlocked, but the upgrades to those base skills will have a few choices.

At level 15, you unlock the second subclass for your character. This subclass starts at the bare minimum, so you will have to grind while having it equipped to unlock all of the abilities for it as well.

2. Hunter
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Probably the most popular class in the game, the Hunter class is popular because of its increased maneuverability when compared to other classes.

RECOMMENDATION: Gunslinger is OK for a while, but pretty much anyone worth their salt using the Hunter class is probably going to be using Bladedancer. The reason is simply that Bladedancer is almost guaranteed kills, whereas you can miss your shots with Gunslinger, and they both kill in one hit anyway.

3. Titan
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
My personal favorite class is the Titan class. I feel like the Titan class has the most Halo-feel to the combat when compared to the other two classes, and as a big fan of Halo, that is what draws me to it. There is a focus on melee combat mixed with gunplay, so the old Halo strategy of shoot to wear down shields and then rush in for a melee attack definitely applies when using the Titan class.

RECOMMENDATION: I recommend using the Striker subclass for pretty much everything in the game except for Control match types. For those match types, the Defender subclass is the most useful to your teammates as you can lay down the Ward of Dawn around the control point to protect it extremely well against any opposing enemies that are trying to reach the flag.

However, the Striker subclass is useful for most every other situation in the game that you will encounter, both Crucible and Vanguard. This is the exact setup that I have for my Titan with the Striker subclass and I find that I am very successful in most regards:

Grenade: Flashbang Grenade
Lift: Catapult
Fist of Havoc: Shockwave
Storm Fist: Amplify
Codex I
Codex IV
Transfusion
Shoulder Charge

4. Warlock
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
The Warlock is another class that is extremely popular in Destiny. For the most part, you will probably find yourself bumping into Warlocks and Hunters. There’s still plenty of Titans, but the dominant population is definitely the Warlocks and the Hunters. The Warlocks are equivalent to a “wizard” or “mage” class in other games and with their basic design philosophy.

RECOMMENDATION: The Warlock is one of the more difficult classes to master. I would stick with the Voidwalker subclass at first as it is less complicated. Once you have that mastered, then feel free to switch to the Sunsinger class. The Sunsinger class has abilities that also benefit your allies, so it’s better to use it when you are around your allies a lot, such as 3v3 Skirmish matches or Control matches.
