Using a format similar to the recent and extremely popular adventure games from Telltale, Game of Thrones tells the story of House Forrester, a house loyal to the Starks, just after the events of the Red Wedding.
Unlike The Walking Dead or The Wolf Among Us, players won’t just control one character throughout the experience, but rather, you are able to take control of multiple members of House Forrester throughout the experience. What does this mean? Well, for one, no one is safe. No one. This is a Game of Thrones experience unlike any other.
The purpose of this guide is provide insight as well as show you how different choices may influence the direction of the game. Since this is a point and click adventure game like the other Telltale games, the main draw is influencing the story with your own decisions. This guide should be used as a reference material, and you should really experience the game and the story of the game yourself naturally.

2. Episode 1: Iron from Ice
- – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - – - -
Oh, the Rains of Castamere…lovely! When you start the game, you control Gared, the squire to Lord Forrester. There is just dialogue options at this point, except you will have to clean off Lord Forrester’s sword which requires you to move the left stick.
Continue going through the conversation options. Eventually, Gared will realize that there is something weird going on at this wedding. At this point, the first major choice in the game comes up. The major choices are choices that can be made that will cause the story to branch off in a different direction. The way you treat the other characters will still change things that happen, but the overall story structure is mostly influenced by these “major choices”.
Your first major choice is whether you should pull Bowen away or immediately go tell Lord Forrester of the impending danger. If you choose to save Bowen, then he will help you in a future fight. If you choose not to save Bowen, then he will die at this point.
Whatever happens, the next stretch of the game is action-focused QTE segments. You will have to mash buttons and use the stick in a variety of combat-based situations to survive. When you reach Lord Forrester, keep going through the conversation options. Lord Forrester will tell Gared a secret. You can choose to promise him that you will keep the secret or not. In any case, this will end the first chapter of the game.
In this second chapter, there are no major choices. You will be able to freely move down the path and examine things here. You can take a look at the blood trails on the ground, the overturned cart, and the other problems that are here in this area.
Finally, you will reach your family’s farm. Engage the attackers in any manner you wish. You will be given a choice of going to your father or fighting them, but the same thing happens regardless. You are then given another choice of choosing between either a pitchfork or an axe to defend yourself, but again, the choice does not matter. Either decision you make will result in the same outcome.
QTE segments will initiate after that, so be ready to complete those. You then have to choose whether or not to spare the life of the soldier after you have successfully completed the QTEs. This is not a major choice, but will change some of the things in the upcoming chapter.
In chapter 3, do the little QTE to get the maggots in your wound. Then walk around the room. You can examine various items in here, or just talk wit the maester to initiate the next sequence of events. You can choose to share Lord Forrester’s secret with the numerous people here, or you can opt to wait and share it only with your uncle…or even choose not to tell him! Whatever you choose, Gared’s fate is that he is sent to the Wall, and at that point, control switches over to Ethan.
As Ethan, you can interact with your brother and sister in however manner you wish. You are given a choice whether or not to go with Royland when prompted. Make whatever decision you wish, it changes nothing in the story. You then have to deal with Lord Whitehill, and again, treat him however you’d like at this juncture, it will change nothing.
Control then switches over to Mira, the eldest daughter of the Forresters. As Mira, you can examine the stuff in her room. Grab the letter from her mom and examine it. Then treat the boy however you’d like. Talk with Margaery will then lead you to the Great Hall to talk with Cersei and Tyrion.
This then results in the second major choice in the game. During the conversation with Cersei, Mira is asked who she is loyal to, King Joffrey or Margaery. Choose one or the other. This will have an effect on future episodes in the series, but the result of it is not immediately apparent here.
Later, Mira can ask Margaery for help or choose not to. Regardless of what you decide, Sera is a factor here. You can force Sera out of the room or you can spill the beans with Sera in the room. Not a major choice, but it will probably have some ramifications down the line.
Control switches back to Gared. Hide behind the tree. If you move the stick to the right, you can see what is going down with Ramsay and whoever he is torturing. The screen will start to fill red the longer you have your head out, and if the entire screen turns red, that means that you will fail and Gared will die. Obviously that’s not what we want, so be sure to duck your head back behind the tree to make the red go away and save Gared’s life for now.
You then decide whether to run away or stay still. Either choice is fine and will result in Gared being safe. Control then moves back to Ethan at Ironrath.
Ethan is involved in the rest of the major choices of episode 1. The first choice deals with what you should do with Erik, who has been caught stealing weapons and attempting to flee from Ironrath. You can choose to cut off his fingers, send him to the wall, or show him complete mercy. It is unclear how this choice will have an influence on the future episodes yet, as the consequence does not appear in this episode.
In any case, the next choice is in regards to who should be Ethan’s sentinel. Your choices are Duncan or Royce. You can walk around and speak with the two of them as well as other people. After telling one of them that you’ve made your decision, they will redirect you to the Maester. Go talk with the Maester then to begin the small council meeting, but before that you should chat with your uncle Malcolm in the stables.
During the small council meeting, you can choose your Sentinel. This is the fourth major choice. Pick Royce or Duncan. Afterwards, Ethan’s mother and Malcolm will then talk. Choose whether or not to send Malcolm off after your brother across the Narrow Sea or to have him stay here for the arrival of Ramsay Snow.
You then control Mira again. As Mira you have the option of taking the stamp of the Tyrell House and a strange key. Decide whether you want to take the items or not, then go through the conversation options that follow.
Finally, back in control of Ethan for the final chapter. You decide to meet Ramsay either in the Great Hall or out by the gates. No matter what happens during these moments, there is something specific that can’t be avoided that will close out the first episode. See you next time!

The Codex is an informative section of the game that includes biographies on the major characters as well as the locales that are visited as well.
The following biographies were taken directly from in-game materials. They are presented here as reference materials.
================
GREGOR FORRESTER
Lord of Ironrath
================
“Lord Forrestor is lord of a strong Northern House and a bannerman of House Star. As a youth, he famously arm-wrestled Galbart Glover for the privilege of becoming the man’s squire; Glover later joked that he’d gladly lose the match all over again. After his father died at the Trident, Gregor ascended to the lordship, and married Elissa Branfield at the behest of Robert Baratheon.”
=====================
LADY ELISSA FORRESTER
Lord Forrester’s Wife
=====================
“Elissa Forrester was born to House Branfield, a minor Southron House that was destroyed when the Targaryen dynasty fell. In the aftermath of the defeat, Lady Elissa was married to Lord Gregor. She at first saw herself as a prisoner at Ironrath, but Gregor was kind to his young wife and she quickly grew to love him. Once their children were born, Lady Elissa embraced her role as the Forrester matriach and silently swore she’d never see her family destroyed again.”
================
RODRIK FORRESTER
Firstborn Son
================
“Lord Forrester’s eldest son, Rodrik, was trained from an early age to shoulder the burdens of leadership. In truth, he was built for the role: strong, charismatic, and formidable on the battlefield. When Robb Stark called his banners to war, Lord Forrester asked Rodrik to stay behind and protect Ironrath; but Rodrik would have none of it. Instead, he rode off at his father’s side and led the Forrester cavalry with such valor that his name came to be feared amongst the ranks of Lannister soldiers.”
===============
ASHER FORRESTER
Exiled Second Son
===============
“Asher had always been a rebellious youth — brawling in taverns, sleeping with whores, and finding ways to raise his father’s ire. But his life took a dark turn when, at age seventeen, he fell in love with Gwyn Whitehill, the eldest daughter of his father’s bitter rival. Bloodshed ensued and Lord Forrester faced a grim choice: go to war, or exile Asher across the Narrow Sea. He chose the latter. Asher remains in Essos to this day, living as a sellsword, trying not to think about the life he left behind.”
==============
MIRA FORRESTER
Eldest Daughter
==============
“Mira had always been fond of Ironrath, but Lady Forrester — wanting her eldest daughter to learn the ways of a Southron court — arranged for Mira to serve as a handmaiden to Margaery Tyrell. To Mira’s great surprise, she enjoyed attending on Margaery at Highgarden, and followed her to King’s Landing with enthusiasm. Life in the capital has not been easy for Mira, as her straightforward Northern ways are often at odds with the subtleties of court life — but she also has more guile than she realizes.”
===============
ETHAN FORRESTER
Thirdborn Son
===============
“Whereas his elder brothers were natural warriors, Ethan always found himself drawn to pursuits of the mind, particularly music and books. He also bore a great love for the towering trees of Ironrath — a love he still shares with his twin sister, Talia. Ethan was just a boy when House Forrester joined the War of the Five Kings; but by war’s end he had been thrust into a role he was unprepared for. On cool autumn evenings, Ethan can still be heard playing his lute in the Ironwood grove.”
===============
TALIA FORRESTER
Secondborn Daughter
===============
“During her fourth pregnancy, Lady Forrester dreamed she would birth a daughter with a voice like the summer rain. But as fate would have it, she gave birth to a boy. The infant, Ethan, wailed for hours — until Lady Forrester entered a second labor, this time birthing a girl. She named the girl Talia, after her own mother — and from then on Ethan hardly ever cried. Her dream came true, for there’s no sound at Ironrath more lovely than that of Talia singing as her brother plays the lute.”
==============
RYON FORRESTER
Fourthborn Son
==============
“The last of the Forrester children, Ryon grew up idolizing his elder siblings and spent many an hour chasing Ethan and Talia through the grove. His youth has been pleasant and shielded from responsibility — but recently Ryon’s innocence has begun to fade. When the war began, Ryon was too young to understand why Rodrik and his father were leaving home. But the grim realities of a House at war has been impossible to avoid and Ryon now asks questions for which his siblings have no easy answers.”
============
GARED TUTTLE
Squire to Lord Forrester
============
“Gared was raised on stories of heroism about the likes of Arthur Dayne and Symeon Star-Eyes. Though the son of a pig farmer, he has always aspired to one day become a warrior himself. With the help of his uncle Duncan, who had risen from lowborn origins to become Castellan of Ironrath, Gared found work in Lord Forrester’s stables, rising through the ranks to eventually be named his squire. Gared has served Lord Forrester throughout the long months in King Robb’s army, and is ready to be a warrior in his own right.”
=============
DUNCAN TUTTLE
Castellan of Ironrath
=============
“As a boy, Duncan showed such talent for managing his family’s farm that everyone assumed he’d one day take over. But Duncan was fated to run more than fields and a pig pen. In time he struck up an unlikely friendship with Gregor Forrester, the heir to House Forrester. The two grew close, and when Gregor became lord he named Duncan his Castellan. Many eyebrows were raised, but Duncan proved himself worthy and has served the House well in the long years since.”
==================
SER ROYLAND DEGORE
Ironrath’s Master-at-Arms
==================
“Royland Degore joined Lord Forrester’s army after his family was wiped out by Ironborn during Balon Greyjoy’s rebellion. Degore had a natural grasp of military tactics and strategy, and came to play a crucial role in the siege of Pyke that ended the war. In the months that followed, King Robert awarded Royland a knighthood and Lord Forrester asked him to serve as Ironrath’s Master-at-Arms. Ser Royland still holds the position and is known for his military expertise, as well as his legendary temper.”
=================
MAESTER ORTENGRYN
Maester to Ironrath
=================
“Originating from a minor house in the Vale, Maester Ortengryn studied at the Citadel in the hope of being assigned to the Eyrie. But by the time he’d earnedenough links on his chain to graduate from acolyte, Jon Arryn had been murdered and the South was in turmoil. The Citadel ultimately assigned Maester Ortengryn to Ironrath, where he soon came to respect the Forrester family’s honor and integrity. He now servers the Forresters with pride and has become a trusted advisor to the lord.”
=================
MALCOLM BRANFIELD
Lady Forrester’s Brother
=================
“As a young man, Malcolm was the black sheep of the Branfield family. He liked to roam the countryside in the style of a hedge knight, refusing his father’s offers of marriage and lands. Malcolm fought bravely alongside his brothers when House Branfield fell; yet he and his sister were the only two survivors. Malcolm now lives with Lady Elissa’s new family at Ironrath, though he still tends to disappear for weeks at a stretch. Malcolm has fathered no children, thus he is the last of the Branfield line.”
========
IRONRATH
Ancient Seat of House Forrester
========
“An imposing stronghold surrounded by towering Ironwood trees, Ironrath marks the ancestral home of House Forrester. Built over fifteen hundred years ago by Cedric Forrester and his triplet sons, Ironrath is a testament to the strength and endurance of Ironwood itself. More than one visitor has called Ironrath the most striking keep in the North; even Ned Stark was said to be envious. Ironrath sits on the edge of the largest Ironwood forest in Westeros, which has proven to be a strategic advantage for the House.”
