How to play Temple Run 2 for iOS and Android: Walkthrough, FAQ and Beginner’s Guide

Welcome to the beginner’s guide for Temple Run 2, the sequel to the legendary (in the game world) Temple Run, which is one of the most popular games in the history of mobile devices and the one that set the entire endless-runner genre into motion. The game itself is much the same in execution as the original Temple Run, except prettier and with more characters, power ups, and other good stuff. Read on for the beginner’s guide to Temple Run 2!

The gameplay is pretty similar to the original Temple Run. You tilt the phone to the left and to the right in order to move your track to the left or right. Swipe up or down to either jump up over obstacles or slide under obstacles. You can also swipe to the left or to the right when you come up to a turn. Make sure to watch out for obstacles right after the turn, though. In addition, you’ll have to tilt to the left or to the right to stay on narrow ledges every so often.

As you run, you’ll collect coins, which you can later use to buy power ups and to buy upgrades, for your character, and even new characters. In addition, items that you can pick up will spawn above the run. These include shields, magnets, large coins that can fill up the power meter, boosts, and gems. Gems are the premium currency in the game, while coins are the primary currency.

As you collect coins, the yellow power meter on the side of the screen will fill up. When the meter is completely full, you’ll get a free shield power up. The shield power up causes you to be able to run through the stage for a short time without having to worry about hitting obstacles, such as fire or pieces of rooftop sticking out of the ground, which won’t do any damage to you.

Otherwise, the rooftops sticking out of the ground are something to watch out for. Each time you hit them, you will get tripped up a bit, causing the monster that is chasing you to catch up a bit, blocking your vision. If you trip over too many of them in too short a time, the monster will catch up.
