Welcome to the beginner’s guide to Golf Star for the iPhone and iPad! Also known as GolfStar, this is a new golfing sim designed by Com2us, and loaded to the gills with all kinds of social elements. You get to play as a beginning golfer who receives golf lessons from Althea, as well as playing against Daniel (your first training partner) and play for money, ranking and new equipment, in an effort to become the best golfer around. This is a game with a lot of different facets and play styles that you can choose from.
The game starts off simply enough. You begin the tutorial at your first course, which is the first three holes of the nine-hole Sawgrass course in Florida. You tee off with the 1-Wood (your driver), with you being able to switch clubs using the arrows above and below the club name, which appears on the left side of the screen.
The game will automatically choose the most optimal club for you depending on your hole. However, you have the option to change it by tapping on the arrows above and below the club name, which is on the left side of the screen.
When you take a normal shot, you can first pick the distance of the shot, by stopping the bar as far left on the screen as you can. Then, you aim it by trying to stop it as close to the center of the red area on the right as you can. With other holes, you’ll see the icon of the flag on the left side of the bar, meaning that this is (generally) where you want to aim the distance of the shot.
Take into account, though, the slope of the hill on which the flag is, when you are trying to decide where to land the ball. For example, try to land it beyond the flag if it slopes back toward you, or before the flag if it slopes away from you. If it slopes to the left or to the right, then before you take the shot slowly swipe to the left or the right to compensate for the slope of the hole.
