There is a glitch which can earn you a ton of free gems but it is VERY difficult to pull off. Basically, what you have to do is, take a fatal hit right as you are approaching a diamond. When you start flashing red, aim toward the diamond, and try to time it so that you explode when you are literally right inside the diamond. If you do this, you’ll collect the diamond multiple times, allowing you to earn 10 to 12 diamonds in one shot.
Plus, when you use the diamond multiplier spin power up, you’ll find diamonds clustered up very close together sometimes, just like coins. They still happen not that often, even when you have the diamond multiplier maxed out all the way, but when they do, make a beeline for them.
Getting shot by tanks is one of the most common ways of dying (they shoot out the red homing mines), but look ahead and you’ll notice that each tank is either facing to the left or to the right. If there’s enough room, then roll behind the tank. If not, then roll on the opposite side of the level as the tank. Either way, you’ll avoid any mines that get fired your way.
You can fill up your multiplier bar very quickly so that you can get huge scores. To do this, mainly try to hit the people and animals on the stages. People especially provide a lot of points, and the more points that you get from hitting a person or object, the faster the bar fills up. The sheds (small, blue, roofed) also provide plenty of points when you hit them.
Plus, the more stuff that you unlock, the higher of a score that you’ll have a chance to get, due to simply having more stuff to hit. Also, when you can’t pass a quest, sometimes it’s better just to spend the gems to skip it, since you’d likely spend the same or more gems trying to restart over and over if you lose. This is especially true for the 40,000 and 50,000 yard (and other long distance) quests.
