Completing the quests is the fastest and easiest way to not only build up your settlement, but to earn all kinds of rewards measured in mushrooms, fire ale and fish, which are the three main resources in this game. However, don’t collect your rewards right away. For one, make sure that your Ale House and Storehouse are upgraded enough that you won’t max out your held resources, because if you accidentally tap them out, you will lose the ability to add more until you upgrade.
Second, your resources can get stolen at any time by other players. The exception to this rule is that rewards for quests can’t be stolen if they haven’t been collected yet, so leave your rewards alone for as long as possible. Then, once you need to either train a massive amount of troops or do some heavy upgrading, go and claim your rewards as you need them. Don’t use resource packages from the black market either until you need them.
Be sure to scout opposing camps before you attack them, so that you know what you are up against and how many troops you will need in order to win. In addition, you’ll often find camps that have been abandoned by other players. You will know who they are because they will continuously produce resources, but will never have any new defensive troops guarding their bases.
At first you will want to keep all of your troops in the catacombs as you are building up your army. When your defenses are strong enough, take them out of the catacombs and let them stand up against rival fighters. Leave your offenses and your scouts inside of the catacombs at all times, as they are not of much use against attackers.
Join a clan in order to unlock a whole new range of missions and upgrades, including participating in clan raids on rival obelisks, as well as contributing resources to improving your own obelisks. If you end up in a clan that has not been active for awhile, leave and find a more active one so that your effort is not wasted.
Attack and claim as many settlements as possible for the amount of troops that you have. You’ll always want to have enough defenses so that you can guard your settlements, or else they will get stolen by other players. Raiding and stealing them is a lot easier than keeping them, but if you can successfully guard them, you can send loads of resources back to your central settlement and rapidly increase the amount of troops you can train.
