Bioware Listed Design Goals to Collect Feedbacks of SWTOR Companion Changes

Since Bioware announced to reduce companion damage and healing outputs, heated discussions have been popped up with angry feedbakcs from players who feel that the changes were too harsh to enjoy the game. To solve this problem, Eric published a post to show the design goals related to companions and asked for players' feedback based on these goals.

Swtor companion changes made based on design goals

Though most of players are fighting against the nerf on swtor companions, the officials have their own design goals and all changes seem somewhat reasonable based on these goals. However, people are just not happy as they set relatively high goals for the [Heroic 2] Missions, Star Fortress, and "The One and Only" Achievement, which were regarded as impossible missions since companions have been nerf within game update 4.0.2.
Basically, Leveling Content and KotFE Chapters are set as low level challenges that require one to have a basic understanding of the game mechanics and appropriate leveling gear. These wouldn't be impacted by companion roles. The [Heroic 2] Missions and Star Fortress are set as medium-level quests that need not only mechanic understanding and gear, but also some levels of Influence with their companion. So you would need to challenge a lot to earn better gear to reach the goal of finally being able to solo the hardest of these missions. While the Heroic Star Fortress is aiming at providing High challenge that expect players to really understand their class, companion, and gear. As for "The One and Only" Achievement, it is definitely intended to be extremely hard so that you will need to be a skilled player, with moderate to high Influence level with your companion, and very good gear on your character.

More testing should be made before things go live

Based on the design goals, many players have showed out their feedback, mainly telling that the tank and healing companion was initially a lot more painful than on other classes. Some people told they could do it instead of the assumption that it was broken, and the heroic can be completed alone as promised, but there was still a puzzle that remains a concern about whether new players can do it well. As far as Swtor2credits is concerned, the big problem is that MMORPG players often play for a sense of increasing mastery, both because they have gained skills and gear upgrades - anything that weakens them is going to be unpopular because it cuts the heart out of their psychological reward. Also, with the level sync in place, strong companions at least please people a bit to allow them moving around as high level character, but the change also reduces that aspect of how enjoyable the game is. I think that the big lesson here is to do more testing before things go live.

With all unhappy opinions, will Bioware adjust their goals and increase the heal numbers again? There is a potential idea suggesting them to achieve design goals by adjusting the mob distribution in heroic areas, or buffing the crowd control spells given to healing companions.
