In world of warcraft there is only one king of DPS, and that king is the Rogue. The Rogue is able to jump into combat, take out its' enemies and then get back to safty like no other world of warcraft class. The Rogues limited armor and lack of self healing hardly hurts the Rogue when you take into consideration its' great damage dealing ability. When the Rogue swarms over an enemy with one of its attacks the foe has little chance of defending itself or counter attacking the Rogue. With all this specialization of the Rogue there there are some expected setbacks to playing a Rogue. The Rogues job is stealth and fast attacks, so unless it's in melee battle it pretty much
is a scout or surveyer. Simply put, the Rogue though not being armored as well as say a warrior still spends most of its' time in the most dangerous of situations.
Some points to consider when choosing a Rogue race:
Don't take your Rogues race selection lightly, it has great bearing on the future of your Rogue. Each race will benefit the Rogue differently, so take some time and see which one is to your liking.
For the Alliance:
The Lockpicking skills of the Rogue works quite well with the Find Treasure abilities of the dwarf race. Although not being the first choice to a Rogue, as a dwarf you will be able to use a mace. Stoneform helps against bleeds, diseases and poisons.
The Escape Artist ability of the gnome is naturally a nice fit for the Rogue, and since the gnome's have Engineering you can have many useful item's otherwise not available.
The human is a flexible race with Diplomacy, Sword and Mace Specialization and Every Man for Himself are all handy but not crucial for the Rogue.
The night elves Shadowmeld is of great benefit to the Rogue enabling a second disappear ability. And 1% bonus to dodge may not sound like much but every little bit helps.
For the Horde:
The blood elf has Magic Resistance which the Rogue would not have otherwise and Arcane Torrent is quite handy to any class.
The orcs Hardness is a great help to a Rogues defenses and Blood Fury makes the Rogues all ready awesome DPS even better.
Oddly enough the troll race makes for a pretty good Rogue. They have Regeneration for self healing, Da Voodoo Shuffle to helps to counter act crowd control and Berserker which will increase the rogues DPS.
The undead has Cannibalize to keep the Rogue from wasting time resting when soloing and Will of the Forsaken works excellent in PVP.
As a new Rogue your main attack is Sinister Strike which you will use teamed up with Throw and Eviscerate. After you get some gold, you may want to purchase the Stealth skill.
Leveling up your Rogue to level 4 will make Backstab and Pick Pocket available to you, both are excelent skill's but Sinister Strike and Throw will still be handy.
Sinister Strike may be increased to level 2 once you have reached level 6, or you may use the newest Gouge attack. At this point Eviscerate will still be your finish move of choice.
At level 8 be sure to raise Eviscerate to rank 2 and learn Evasion to help you get out of tricky situations.
Once you have leveled up to level 10 you should take some time to look ahead at how you wish to play your Rogue in the future. Take a good look at your different talent tree's to help you decide how you will want to use your talent point's. By the time you reach level 17 you should have your Rogue set up in the direction you want to specialize in.
After you have gotten these basics down you will be able to expand your Rogues abilities based on your chosen talent specialization, craft your Rogue into a formidable character that you will enjoy playing for a long time.
Thanks and Happy Gaming
