The official release date for Halo 4 has finally been announced! Fans can now begin their plans for the midnight release date on November 6th, 2012 which for me includes finding a store with an INDOOR release or else breaking out the parka and snowpants (dang you North Dakota!)
It seems that the developers for Halo 4 have decided to start giving out some of the information that Halo fans have been eagerly awaiting. Just recently 343 Industries announced Neil Davidge as the composer for the Halo 4 soundtrack. Davidge has done work on movies like Clash of the Titans, Unleashed, Push, and The Hulk and was nominated for an Oscar for the film score of Trouble in the Water.
Hopefully this trend of information continues as there are many questions the Halo fan base has and many of them relate to the multiplayer aspect and more specifically the XP/Ranking system and how it will work in the new game. Many fans were disappointed with the way Bungie had done away with the leveling system from Halo 3 and simply had ranks in Halo Reach which could simply be obtained by sheer playing time.
One of the main groups that is awaiting the reveal of the ranking system is the competitive gaming scene. Competitive Halo has been around since the days of Halo CE with people hosting LAN tournaments and competing for small prizes, however, Halo 2 was where the competitive Halo really exploded hosting large scale tournaments with large cash prizes and gathering a huge fan following. As time progressed Halo evolved and so did competitive gaming with organizations like Major League Gaming starting which today does live streaming Halo events and has events with up to $100,000 cash prizes! Halo was the forerunner for MLG but lately has faded and given way to games like Starcraft II and was even almost completely removed from MLG because of low numbers but was saved for the time being due largely in part to dedicated fans calling the Halo world to action and getting great attendance in both the live stream and at the event itself.
Halo 4 has the ability to either revive competitive Halo or end a very long run for a very successful series, only time will tell. One thing we do know is that November 6th Halo fans will be out in full force to see where Master Chief will take them this time around.
Halo 4 is only one of many great games coming out this year and as that list of games continues to grow you can bet I'll keep you updated :)
