As you’re starting out in World of Warcraft, or just starting a new class, you may find yourself a little lost on exactly how to play you class. This Warlock Leveling Guide is here to help clear up some of the confusion you may come across while getting started.
Warlock Leveling Guide Part 1: Proper Spec
All talent trees are viable for a Warlock Leveling Spec. However, there are advantages in each one. Affliction is my favorite since its use of DoT’s and Drains keep you safe and healthy at all times. It is a little slower though, if you don't know what you're doing. Demonology allows your pet demons to do most of the damage for you, still keeping you safe, but requires more pet management. Destruction is all about face melting nukes, and while it potentially kills quicker, you will experience much more downtime for mana. My personal preferences are Affliction for questing (where you will get most of your experience) and Demonology for Dungeons.
Warlock Leveling Guide Part 2: Gearing Up
Gearing your Warlock is pretty simple. All specs will use the same gear. The only armor you can equip is cloth, and you can use Staves, 1-handed Swords, Daggers, and off-hand items. When looking for gear, you want to focus on stamina first, then intellect. Secondary stats that are beneficial include Spell Power, hit rating, critical rating, and haste. Crit and haste have a greater effect on destruction than any other spec, though. When looking for gear, you should be able to find everything you need through quests, dungeons, and crafting. Do NOT go to the auction house for gear. You’d just be wasting your hard earned gold.
Warlock Leveling Guide Part 3: Professions
Like any other cloth wearer, tailoring is an excellent choice. It’s even better when paired with enchanting since you don’t need any specific gathering profession. All humanoids drop cloth. Crafted cloth gear can be dis-enchanted, and you can forge your enchants and sell them. In addition, the cloth scavenging ability makes tailoring much easier, and more profitable. Other good crafting professions include inscription, alchemy, and jewelcrafting. All of these are convenient for any class really, but the latter two, alchemy and jewelcrafting, are quite possibly the two most profitable professions in the game. When paired together you have a very powerful money making combo. Though many players may find it difficult to level jewelcrafting and alchemy together due to the high cost of materials, I found it quick and easy using a WoW Gold Guide. If you aren’t keen on crafting, and just want to go easy, pick up Herbalism, Mining, or Skinning. The passive bonuses are very nice, and you can make some decent gold while leveling.
With this Warlock Leveling Guide, you should be off on a good start. However, the World of Warcraft is massive, and with literally thousands of quests, over 100 zones and dungeons, it’s easy to get lost. So don’t be afraid to look for help or look at a more detailed WoW Leveling guide to get your bearings straight.
