For many, the game Deus Ex was a leader or pioneer back in the day, 2000 to be exact. Trying to find information on the 2000 game version in today’s day and age is actually hard to accomplish. When I got a request to do a review on this game from a friend of mine, I kept finding the sequel to the game and it took me a little bit to find information. I couldn't understand why a game that was so "awesome" was so hard to find on search engines.
After checking out this game, I soon realized why I had never heard of it. When you play Deus Ex, you are playing a first person shooter action RPG. I personally have never been able to stomach any first person shooter game. As I went through my research however, I soon learned why this game was so great back in the day. For the year 2000, the graphics were stellar. For today’s society, many would criticize the grittiness of the environment within the gameplay. Again, for it's time, it was revolutionary.
Aside from the graphics, the story and plot itself are actually very intriguing! You start out in 2052 and there is a deadly virus going around that is slaughtering thousands of people. You find out that there is a huge conspiracy that has been going on and on for years. It is your job as Agent JC Denton, to track down the terrorists and get the vaccination to save the world. Pretty stellar plot if I don’t say so myself. Not only is there a main plot that you follow throughout the game, but there are also many side quests that are available depending on the dialogue that you choose. Unlike most games, when you kill an NPC they return eventually and you see them again. In Deus Ex, when you kill a character, they do not return. With that in mind, you have to be very careful of your actions within the game.
This game also adapts to each players style. You can choose to be stealthy, crafty or just set fire to everything in your path.
Included in the game is a great soundtrack as well. You have 4 different sound tracks that are played depending on your situation for each level. That's a lot of music! If you are into Action RPGS I would recommend Deus Ex for you!
