If you are a Dance Dance Revolution fan then you will love Dance Masters. Dance Masters is a Kinect version of the next squel of Dance Dance Revolution. It is more about following the on screen cues than actually dancing.
Being a spin off of DDR there is not a large learning curve to learning to dance. In this way Dance Masters is more like a game than dancing. You simply move your body around trying to hit the marks on the screen. The marks vary from streams, poses, ripples, and steps.
Streams are arrows on the screen that you are to trace with your hands in a fluent motion. Poses are the silhouettes by the on screen dancer that you need to duplicated with your whole body. Ripples need to be touched with the beat. And steps are stepping in time to the beat.
There is a dance gauge that needs to have something in it at all times or your game is over. Keep your dance gauge filled by following the cues correctly. When you do not do something correctly it empties your gauge. When it is completely empty the game is over.
There are three different modes to choose form in Dance Masters, lesson, dance and status. Lesson mode is a basic tutorial of how to play the game. There are no step lessons as you are following the on screen prompts anyways. The basic tutorials will help you learn what to do to hit the marks on the screen.
Dance mode is simply your dancing. Dance to unlock more songs or dance with a friend. Status mode is where you can check your stats, review your scores, and see what you have unlocked.
If you are impatient and do not want to wait until you beat the songs to unlock more you can cheat and download Masters mode from Xbox live for free. This will unlock all of the songs with no effort on your part.
Unlike some of the other Kinect dance games you can play two player together on one screen rather that having to take turns dancing. You can play up to 4 players online with Xbox live. Challenge your friends to a dance off.
With Dance Masters you can save your moves and play them back to see yourself dance and critique your dancing. Take a snapshot of your favorite move and place it on your online photo album for all your friends to see. Have fun and let it all hang out with Dance Masters!
