The bad news for TERA Online fans is that there is no definite release date for the game. However, just because there is no definitive news regarding a release date doesn’t mean that there isn’t any good news. In fact, there are several things you can be happy about.
No News is Good News
First of all, they haven’t set a date yet because they still feel the game needs work. But why does it need work? It’s already out in Korea, right? Well, yes. But it’s released in Korea for Korean audiences. That means no English localization. In its Korean incarnation, Western players probably wouldn’t like the game anyway. Korean MMOs tend to be quite the grind.
Rebuilt from the Ground Up, for You
What’s happy about taking longer to make? They are polishing and reworking the game for North America, from some of the artwork and models like the Elin race to mechanics details like the aforementioned grind. Take comfort in the knowledge that TERA Online will be a game you’ll actually want to play.
Did you know that the developers would like you to be able to play the game with a console controller? Well, they need time to work on that. They are also working on the pricing model. With Chrono-scrolls you may never have to pay a cent beyond what you do to download or purchase the base client.
A Silver Lining
Second, there has been some news on the TERA Online beta. The news is: it’s still far off. However, there is some good news. The North American TERA Online team has been busily working away at their internal alpha test. Alpha builds are buggier, usually reserved just for internal testing. This time, they’ve said they are getting close to a public alpha test of the game. So make certain that you’ve registered for the beta test.
If you really can’t wait to get your hands on TERA, you may be able to wrangle your way onto the Korean server. However, you need to keep a few things in mind. For one, it’s in Korean. Two, it will be hardly representative of the game you’ll be able to pick up off the shelves sometime in the next year. You’ll probably also experience lots of lag, due to the distances involved.
So far, TERA Online is shaping up to be a contender in the next generation of MMOs due to hit shelves over the next couple of years.
