Starcraft 2 Gateway Tactics And Strategies

This Starcraft 2 Gateway tactics and strategies article provides various tips that the Protoss player can take advantage of to ensure that they get the most out of this unit production structure.

The main purpose of this structure is to transfer Protoss warriors from their home world to the battlefield. These Protoss units are normally transferred from their home world to the entrance of this structure. This building needs to be within a psionic matrix in order to function. The psionic matrix is normally provided by one or more pylons or deplo[censored] warp prisms.

The Gateway can transform into a Warpgate once the Warpgate research is completed at the Cybernetics Core. It's common to conduct this research as quickly as possible in order for Gateways to be able to transform to warp in units to a location on the battlefield that is within the psionic matrix.

The first unit that is able to be produced from this structure is the Zealot which requires no other buildings. The Zealot is a hardy melee warrior which can slice apart it's opponents and act as a buffer for your ranged units.

The second unit that can be produced from this structure is the Protoss Stalker. The Stalker requires a Cybernetics Core to be built as well however this unit is well worth the cost. It is a versatile ranged unit that excels in rapid maneuvering.

The third unit produced by this building is the Sentry which also needs a Cybernetics Core to be built beforehand. The Sentry is a spell casting unit that also has a ranged attack that can target ground and air units. Good use of this unit's abilities can turn the tide of a battle for a Protoss player.

The Gateway can also warp in more advanced units such as the High Templar. This spell caster needs a Templar Archives to also be built somewhere on the battlefield. The High Templar has no conventional attacks however its abilities can cause quite a bit of damage within a large area. The High Templar along with its Dark brethren can combine to form an Archon which is a powerful ranged unit that inflicts splash damage.

The last unit that can be produced from this structure is the Dark Templar unit. The Dark Templar requires a Dark Shrine to be present before it can be warped in. This unit is always cloaked. The Dark Templar uses its melee weapons to tear apart units and buildings at close range.

The Gateway building itself has 500 hitpoints and 500 shield energy. Combined with the structure's relative cheap cost these statistics make the Gateway a good building to use as part of a wall in against a Zerg opponent. When playing against a Protoss opponent one can tell whether this building is warping in units as it will glow in the middle when doing so.

The Protoss Gateway structure has almost no real requirements in order to be built apart from being within range of the Psionic Matrix. However the Protoss player needs at least one Nexus on the field in order to warp in this building with a probe.
