Useful Starcraft 2 Reactor Tactics

The right Starcraft 2 Reactor tactics can and will help you to improve the production of your units. Knowing when to use Reactors on which buildings can sometimes make or break the game for a Terran player.

The Reactor is indeed an add-on that you can attach to certain structures such as the Barracks and Factory as well as the Starport. Once attached, it allows you to queue up to 8 units and you can also construct a pair of units simultaneously at the facility to which the Reactor is attached.

The only constraint is that the structure to which you attach your Reactor will only be able to construct the starting units of a building. This means that you can only build the Marines for your Barracks. Also, you can only create a [censored] ion for your Factory and Vikings as well as Medivacs for your Starports. The armor of your Reactor is of an armoured mechanical type.

The Starport provides you with a means to produce Terran air units. When you also attach the Reactor to it, the Starport can produce two Vikings or Medivacs simultaneously. This can be helpful when going for a bio build or when you need air superiority.

Alternatively you can make use of a Tech Lab to provide your Starport access to Ravens, Banshees and Battlecruisers. However, Battlecruisers are only possible if you also have the Fusion Core present.

It also pays to learn how to make use of the right tactics in regard to using the [censored] ions more effectively when the Reactor is attached to a Factory. These [censored] ions are really like a more mobile Firebat in vehicle form and can be very effective when used at the beginning of the game and when there are few enemy offensive units at a base.

When going for a quick [censored] ion har[censored] you should build the Reactor on the first Barracks building while the Factory is being constructed. Once both new buildings have been finished you can switch the Barracks with the Factory which allows you to build the [censored] ions straightaway. This is one of the best ways of harassing the early economy of your opponents if executed properly provided that they are not walled in.

Reactors are ideal for attaching to the Barracks building in order to pump out m[censored] marines given the low cost of each individual marine. One would normally see such an arrangement when going for a bio style or a bio mech style of play.

It is possible to add either a Tech Lab or Reactor to any structure that produces units. The Tech Lab can be used to produce advanced units and it also allows you to do some research on upgrades that are relevant to the units that are being produced in a particular structure. The latter, on the other hand, provides you with a means to produce two units simultaneously but these units are only basic units like the [censored] ions at your Factory or Marines in the Barracks.
