Starcraft 2 Spire Tactics That Work

The Spire is a major asset to the Zerg, because it allows them to create air units that can help fight against other air units or ground units of the opposite team. The first thing you need to do is get stable when you start out, by creating drones and the required buildings to build your Spire.

Many Zerg players know that you always need to make sure you have some sort of defense within the first five minutes or ten minutes of the game. Defense structures such as the Spine Crawler and Spore Crawler are needed to defend in the beginning of the game or you can concentrate on producing Zerglings and other units.

Once the Spire is made, you should think about upgrading the attack and armor of your air units and you should eventually morph the Lair into a Hive. Once you upgrade to a Hive, you are then able to upgrade the Spire into a Greater Spire which allows you to morph Brood Lords from Corruptors.

In order to get an air-based strategy to work correctly, you need to think about focusing on upgrading your air units. The level one Carapace and Attack upgrades do not have a prerequisite. The level two upgrades require a Lair and the level three upgrades require a Hive to be created.

A normal Spire allows for Mutalisks and Corruptors to be created from larvae. Mutalisks are versatile air units that can attack both ground and air targets. Their basic attack bounces a couple of times from one enemy unit to another which makes Mutalisks very potent when attacking enemy forces in groups.

Corruptors are sturdy air units that can attack only air units but they receive a damage bonus against massive units. The Corruptor also has a special ability called Corruption. This ability can only target enemy units although it is very useful against single high-value targets such as Battlecruisers and Colossi. The Corruption ability causes the targeted unit to take additional damage for a short duration.

The Brood Lord is the most powerful Zerg air unit available but to obtain this unit you have to have a Greater Spire present. The Brood Lord functions as aerial based artillery for the Zerg. It attacks ground targets by spawning Broodlings that then attack.

Brood Lords supported by Corruptors and ground units are a very potent force indeed, especially once the attack and armor upgrades have been researched by the Zerg player. Keep in mind that the Spire and the Greater Spire are rather vulnerable to attack as they do not have many hit points.
