This was a request for a sniper build in Fallout New Vegas. As stated in the forum post I didn’t get a sniper rifle until later in the game but when I got it I was killing Deathclaws in one hit if I got a critical hit. Anyways here we go.
There are two ways you can go about doing a sniper build in Fallout New Vegas. One of which is to get high luck and agility but lose a stat like charisma. The other is more well rounded but you won’t get as many crits. Also something you should remember before picking you base stats is that the Anti Material rifle requires 9 strength to use if you want to use it. Anyways here’s how I would go.
First off you get to pick two bonus perks at the start of each game. I would go Kamikaze(Bonus Action points) and Small Frame(Bonus Agility). You will take a lot of damage if you get hit but since you will be sniping you shouldn’t be getting hit.
Strength: 5 (I don’t care for the anti material rifle and this is enough for the guns I use.)
Perception: 7 (The earlier you notice the enemy the better.)
Endurance: 4 (You shouldn’t be getting hit that much anyways)
Charisma: 3 (This can vary depending on how you want to play if you don’t care about talking to people that much drop it to 1 if you do keep it at 5)
Intelligence: 5 (The bonus points per level are good but you will max you key stats no problem with the default amount.)
Agility: 8 (This is key for the bonus accuracy and action points)
Luck: 8 (Better chance to crit and who doesn’t like to win at the casino all the time)
Tagged Skills: Guns, Stealth and Repair. (The last one is really up to you but I like to keep my guns repaired)
Remember you can go the the New Vegas Clinic and get a couple permanent stat upgrades if you want. So that’s the base for the Fallout New Vegas sniper build.
Here is how I would level up my perks as well. Remember you get perks every two levels.
Lvl 2: Rapid Reload ( Honestly at level 2 there isn’t much to help your sniping ability so why not reload quicker.)
Lvl 4: Educated ( Maxing out you skills quickly is very nice)
Lvl 6: Bloody Mess (More damage overall and gruesome deaths)
Lvl 8: Commando (Increases accuracy in Vats… Yup)
Lvl 10: Finesse (More crit chance is always nice)
Lvl 12: Sniper (Increased chances for headshots)
Lvl 14: Silent running (Being sneaky the key to a good sniper this helps you move quicker while you’re in stealth)
Lvl 16: Jury rigging ( Being able to fix you sniper with something similar that isn’t a sniper is a big help)
Lvl 18: Acton boy/girl (More action points)
Lvl 20: Better criticals (Increases your crit damage by 50%)
Lvl 22: Grim Reaper’s Sprint ( A kill in vats will refund some action points)
Lvl 24: Concentrated fire (Increases vats accuracy even more per body part selected)
Lvl 26: Nerves of steel (Faster action point regeneration)
Lvl 28: Tag! (At this point you have the key sniper perks for buff something up)
Lvl 30: Whatever you want. At level 30 you should be dropping hordes of enemies without much issue anyways.
One thing you have to remember about this Fallout New Vegas sniper build is that is relies heavily on you sneaking. Sneak shots guarantee a crit more often then not. Once you get a sniper rifle be sure to get a silencer for it as well. Also be sure to have something for in case the enemy gets close like a lever action rifle or pistol. Now that we covered the perks lets get to the companions.
For this build I would go Lily(For increased stealth boy duration and crit damage) and Boone(for the spotter perk as well as cover fire).
Armor is up to you but I would use to recon armor from the brotherhood of steel initiates. It increases your stealth and doesn’t weigh much.
So that’s pretty much it to being a good sniper in Fallout New Vegas. As I said before I’m not sure how early you will be able to get a sniper rifler but you can use any rifle really.
I hope this helps you enjoy your stay in Fallout New Vegas.
