The Cave, a game made by Ron Gilbert and Double Fine Productions is a 2D side scrolling puzzle quagmire. We will documenting our journey through The Cave and will be posting up stopping points along the way for anyone that may need some help. The Crystal Dog/Dragon/whatever the heck is in Ron Gilbert’s mind is the first puzzle you will come across in the game. There are only a few steps in finishing this puzzle. The first is you have to have the crowbar from the start zone. Take any character up from where the Crystal Dragon will kill you and go up to an old well. The crowbar will allow any character to break off a crank.
Take the crank back to a well that was closer to the beginning opening of this section. From this point you can put the crank, and use it, on this well. The rope will spin up and you will be able to grab a bucket.
Head back towards the first well that you stole the crank from. Continuing upwards you will see a lever and a fuse box with dripping water. Hit the action button to use the bucket on top of the fuse box to stop the dripping water. Now you can grab the fuse out of the fuse box.
Take two characters back towards the entrance of this section. Check downward from the first well and there is a drink machine as well as some food. Put the fuse in this fuse box to turn the machines on. With one of your other characters use the food machine and a big hot dog will pop out.
Take the hot dog and the fuse back towards the crystal animal. Walk up to the spikes that are right next to the crystal animal and press the action button. The hot dog will stick into a spike. Now for the fuse you need to return it to it’s original spot so that the levers are powered.
Now you are at the last part. Ring the bell that is next to the crystal animal. It will run up to the spikes and start mowing down on the hot dog. Switch to the character that is up by the fuse box and levers. Hit the levers and the crystal animal will get grabbed up. From there on you can move to the next puzzle section.
