Important Unlocks:

  • Character Unlock: Sumia joins your squad at the beginning of the mission.
  • Character Unlock: Kellam joins your squad if you talk to him with Chrom.

This mission is about taking a castle by storm. A cut scene will play that shows your crew making it’s way across some snowy grounds up to a castle. Chrom says he can talk his way into the castle. However, before that happens Frederick tells you that the Feroxi Guard are mobilizing and getting ready for a fight. This will initiate the Preparations Menu.

Preparations Menu in Fire Emblem: Awakening:

Use “select Units” to decide who will take the field. Choose “Inventory to manage weapons and items. Once your preparations are complete, choose “Fight” to begin the battle.

Choose your units wisely. Early on in the game it is important to level a lot of people evenly. If you are playing on classic mode this is even more important. You don’t want your best character to eat it and then have low level characters later in the story. Once you pick your characters you can manage the inventory and get on with the battle.

The first thing you should do is go over and talk to Kellam. He is a heavy character that can do more than handle his own. Move Chrom to Kellam who is just to the left of where you start to pick him up in your squad. Kellam can handle himself in battle so feel free to take on the three enemies that are just to the left of him.

The other characters can then focus on the action to the right. Be careful not to take the Sumia anywhere near any archers. It will do massive damage to the character. After a turn the game will introduce the “Pairing Up” mechanic. I suggest pairing up Sumia and Chrom.

Pairing Up in Fire Emblem: Awakening:

Move Next to an ally and select “Pair Up” to move into that unit’s protection. The lead unit receives a stat boost. Choose “Switch” to have the units change roles.

Work on the units that are to the left and right of the castle gate. Pair up units if you would like to. Pairing up these units with characters different from them will lead to some good powerful combinations. After killing a couple of the enemies on the right side, or left, one of them will drop a key. Then the game will introduce the door and lock mechanics in Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Locks in Fire Emblem: Awakening:

Keys are specialized. To unlock a door, you need a door key. To open a locked chest, you need a chest key. However, some classes, like theives, don’t need keys to open doors and chests.

Now you have to take your key and unlock the doors on the right and left side by some stairs. These areas are guarded by heavy knight characters. Make sure you have a heavy class or Fredrick in front. These heavy knights can dish out some serious damage and have really good armor. You can only go up with one character and it bottlenecks you so make sure to have your best foot forward and some support behind. Defeat all of the enemies and take out Raimi to move on to the next chapter. You have learned a lot completing Chapter 3!
