Obviously you need to be on the Rebel side to be Luke and be on the Empire side to be Darth. When you are playing on Hoth you should see some little power up icons scattered throughout the map. These are little, almost see through symbols that you can pick up with your character. Each of these will net you some sort of power up. One of these will be a Hero power up that you can use, it looks like a circle with a saber in the middle. You have to use these before the time runs out or else you lose them, just use it soon after you pick it up, behind cover. Luke and Darth are very powerful but still can easily die if you don’t play smart. Going in solo against 5+ guys will result in one or two kills for you and death quickly. Go in with your squad or flank enemies to make the most of the hero.
These tokens are also how you can get the Tie Fighters and Snow Speeders on Hoth. I am currently trying to figure out if the Hero Tokens spawn randomly or if they have a set spawn area. I will update when after I play some more and am able to find out!
