Mortal Kombat Walkthrough Chapter 5 - Liu Kang

Chapter 5 - Liu Kang

The scene starts with all the remaining contestants gathered in Shang Tsung's throne room. We see four guards escorting one contestant inside. Shang Tsung explains that this is Shao Khan's latest creation, a creature made from the souls of numerous warriors, Ermac. He then calls forth Liu Kang, announcing that he is the only earth warrior to have made it to this round of the tournament.

Ermac is indeed a very different kind of opponent. He specializes in more mid range attacks and is renowned for his ability to slam his opponents around. He has some teleporting ability so keep on guard for him to suddenly appear by you. He can use this to a fairly damaging effect so be wary.

With Liu Kang, you will find a few ranged options with his two fireballs, each using an Away, Toward + Punch, the Dragon Kick using the same motion with a front kick and the Bicycle Kick using Away, Away Toward + Back Kick. Try to save his X-Ray attack, as it can take off about half your opponent's health, making it a great finisher. In this particular battle, taking advantage of your ranged options will put you in a better position as a few of them are outside of Ermac's range, which is about Jump Range. If you can fight him just outside that, you will find yourself at a bit of an advantage overall, making a hard fight a bit easier. Also, use his Parry Move occasionally (Down, Away + Front Punch) to counter Ermac's Teleport Punch.

After the fight, everyone makes to leave. Kitana approaches Shang Tsung and tells him that she will ensure he does not make it to the final challenge. The scene cuts to Liu Kang practicing while talking with Raiden, who makes a point to tell Liu Kang he must not let emotion get in the way for his vision of the changed future to come to pass. Raiden tells Liu Kang about his Amulet, how it was forged by the Elder Gods and that it cracked after he had received his first vision. He explains that his future-self sent him these memories to change the flow of events. The amulet shows the progress of their attempts to change the future. They both believe that if the cracks are healed that the course of events that lead to their deaths and Raiden's will have been prevented. He continues to practice then Kitana approaches and they duel a little. Liu appears to have the upper hand and he asks her to show him more. The scene changes and the two battle for real.

Kitana will be more aggressive than when you last fought her. After the battle, she asks him to kill her as she has disgraced her father. She tells him that she came to kill him and it is only right to do so. He refuses to kill her and tells her that the encounter never took place and she disgraced no one. She reveals to be the daughter of Shao Khan. He still tells her that he wishes that in the future they will meet under more favorable circumstances.

Liu and his friends appear at the original arena at night time. Shang Tsung announces the final battle against Scorpion and Quan Chi. This looks to be a more challenging battle overall. You need to deal with Scorpion and a completely new opponent.  Be ready to block right off the bat in case Scorpion rears back to throw out his harpoon. After that, close the gap quickly to use Liu Kang's melee prowess. Remember to use the Parry move, this will cause the computer to pause in its assault and give you something of an opening to use against it. Remember to also use the Super variants on your favorite attacks for some extra damage without costing yourself much of the boost you get.

After the battle, he approaches Shang Tsung. Raiden tells him the tournament is not yet over. It is time for Goro to appear. He is sent off to the Lair, dominion of Goro, the reigning champion of Mortal Kombat. Goro makes his appearance at last. He is happy to face a Shoalin as his opponent after so many tournaments of earth warriors not even making it that far. Goro is a different sort of challenge, he does not take as much damage, is quite large and strong. He can stomp the ground with tremendous range to stun you and will likely spam his fireball as well. Most of your first hits on him will be absorbed, so keep on guard if you are countering just to be safe. Here, there is almost no reason to save your X-Ray attack and should use it as soon as possible to try to seal your victory against Goro. Favor attacks like the Bicycle Kick and Dragon Kick to quickly inflict a good bit of damage on him, do not count so much on close range melee combos.

After the battle, he bows to his fallen foe and takes the portal back to the main arena. Shang Tsung steps forward and the two square off,. the final battle of this Tournament.

Fighting Shang Tsung is fighting not just him, but every other character you have fought before, with the exception of Goro. Shang Tsung himself can sap your life to replenish his, a unique ability in the game. He has a number of projectiles he can launch both from his hands and the ground below you.  The transformations only last so long but they can be very difficult to deal with thanks to all the different styles in the game.

He ends with "Say it!" and Shang Tsung concedes. The warriors of Outworld leave through a portal. Kitana hestitates, looking back at Liu Kang just briefly. Raiden bows his head in honor of his friend's victory. He looks at his amulet and only sees a slight creak heal.

Shao Khan is distraught over how his 50 years of waiting have come to naught thanks to the failing of Shang Tsung. He orders him killed. Shang Tsung talks about how the rules can be changed. This stays his execution as he talks of changing the tournament system. The scene changes over to the Temple of Light where  Liu Kang presented champion's medallion for his efforts.
