Chapter 7 - Smoke
The scene cuts to Sub-Zero and Smoke standing on a beach in Outworld. We find Smoke with Sub-Zero's brother, Tundra, who takes on his brother's identity as a way of honoring him. Both are seeking answers about the truth behind the death of Sub-Zero. They are seeking Shang Tsung to get the full details about what transpired. They are both worried about their Lin Kuei pursuers who they know cannot be far behind. They separate to search more thoroughly and to hopefully throw off their pursuers.
Just after the new Sub-Zero parts company with Smoke, Kitana shows up, intent on removing Smoke from the picture. Time for a fight. Kitana is not too hard for you, she is a bit more passive, letting you get the hang of Smoke. As Smoke, you will have an invisibility move (Down, Up + Front Kick) and a small number of ranged attacks at your disposal.
He knocks out Kitana and departs the scene. He comes across a scene of Shang Tsung and Kano, who is testing various weapons. Smoke approaches the pair, calling out to Shang Tsung. Kano sets down his weapon and approaches Smoke, intent on beating him in combat.
After the battle, Smoke demands answers for what happened during the first tournament with Sub-Zero. Reptile appears as Shang Tsung changes into Sub-Zero. Smoke tells the sorcerer that just assuming his form will not give him Sub-Zero's skills. Shang Tsung challenges this notion and they enter combat.
Two on One, gotta love it. Shang Tsung indeed has all of Sub-Zero's skills, so handle the battle accordingly. Reptile is not the pushover he was last time you fought him so expect a bit of damage this time around. This is a particular brutal combo of fighters though. They both can play at distance while Smoke is a bit more for melee. Use his Smoke Toward to quickly and safely close any gaps. Hold onto your X-Ray gauge for the power boost and save it to knock one of them out. After that, try to rebuild it quickly by taking out the other one. Keep on the move and liberally use his movement attacks to gain the upper hand and win.
After this round of combat he demands answers but is attacked out of no where. He is then beat by an unknown assliant, who is revealed to the Cyborg Sektor. Smoke is surprised by this and we learn that Smoke broke his orders to pursue the truth about Sub-Zero. Sektor demands that he returns to the temple to be converted to a Cyborg himself. Smoke refuses and combat ensues.
Against Sektor, be wary of his flamethrower and missile attacks. He still has all his old moves, he just executes them somewhat differently. This is a fairly even match so keep moving and keep up the pressure on him.
After the fight he makes it clear he won't return and submit to the conversion process. A number of cyborgs appear and attack him, thrusting their hands into him, starting the conversion process. Raiden appears not too far away, sensing the great pulse of energy from the conversion happening and sees a vision of Smoke who becomes a cyborg. He interferes, saving the Lin Kuei from conversion. Smoke thanks Raiden for his interferance and explains the situation with their cyber initiative. He tells them that his friend, Sub-Zero, is also in danger as all Lin Kuei are being converted into Cyborgs. Raiden convinces Smoke that they will find his friend at the coming Tournament. The trio departs and the scene fades to black.
