Dark Souls Walkthrough Part 11 – Blighttown Entrance
Stop and take some time to stock up on on Blooming Purple Moss and Purple Moss. Everything in Blighttown will either inflict Poison or Toxic and both are very quickly deadly to even the stoutest characters. More than anything you want to avoid blocking to keep from building up status in the least. Be sure to explore the area a little as there is a valuable Iaito Sword in the beginning and a Shadow Armor Set.
Immediately be on guard as you descend into Blighttown. There are Barbarians along the way as you move forward. While a total of 3 immediately in this area it is best to take them on one at a time. You need to dodge around them and work to take them on one at a time, which is easy enough as long as you use some ranged attacks to pull them. There are also some Blowdart shooters in this area as well. They will very likely land a few darts on you before you can find them so move carefully and keep some cover between them and you once you get an idea of their location.
When you can, head to the right. Take the ladder and you will find a few enemies there. At the far end you will find a Soul of a Proud Soldier. Now head back up the ladder and keep along the path to the right. There is a lot to fight along the way so just keep your guard up. Take the next ladder. There is just one enemy at the bottom of the ladder. In the middle of that area you will find a Large Nameless Soul. Move on forward. There is another pair of enemies nearby but once you kill them, take the nearby ladder down. You will arrive at a Bonfire. Light it so you have a solid respawn.
After you light the Bonfire, potentially Kindling it, head forward to the left. Take the nearby ladder down to collect some more Souls. Now head to the right to properly proceed with the area. While crossing the Stone Bridge be on guard as there is a Blowdart Sniper in the Upper Right of the area that will start attacking you. There are a few Attack Dogs and Zombies here so it does not get any easier. Attempt to lure them away from the bridge to avoid having the Sniper shooting at you while you dispense with them. Clear them then make your way across the platform. On the far side take the ladder down to the floor below. On this platform you will have a good view of the room below you. Before going down look around to the left to spot, and kill, a Wall Hugger who will make your next crossing much harder and many times more lethal. You can head down the ladder to the right to find a dead-end area with an Eagle shield in it. Head back up and go straight ahead to progress.
On this level you will start dealing with Giant Mosquitoes. These infinitely spawn so only engage them when you have no other choice. Just go for the ladder opposite the cave entrance. This has the added bonus of leading you to the Blowdart Sniper. Now, after ascending and dealing with the Sniper, head into the Cave entrance. En route be wary as there is a Barbarian and a Zombie along the way waiting for you. Fight these together is not recommended at all. Try to separate them to take them out. Continue along the path into the cave and you will find a wonderful piece of loot, the Whip. You need to drop down just before the White Light. You can also head through the White Light and take the nearby ladders down if you want to avoid what little damage this series of falls cause. This leads into the Lower Portion of Blighttown.
