Dark Souls Walkthrough Part 24 – Valley of the Drakes
This is a simple area overall but there are a few things to be found here. It is not a very hard area to navigate but it remains a very dangerous area. There are narrow passes and Wyverns, a weaker member in the family of dragons. This assumes that you climb up from the Darkroot Basin.
Not too far in you will encounter your first of many Wyverns. These things are hard to deal with individually and they only get harder if dealt with as a group. Take your time dealing with them and lure them out individually. This one is very good practice as it is naturally on its own.
If you head straight forward from the first Wyvern and start heading across the bridge, you will encounter a second alone. This one poses its own challenge as the bridge is narrow and it can easily knock you off given the chance. Defend and dodge, work carefully to defeat the Wyvern. Just beyond you will find a corpse with the Brigand Armor set as well as the Spider Shield. Keep going to find a small collection of Wyverns. Remember, lure them out one at a time to ensure your survival. Keep going into the tower to find some a Red Tearstone Ring in the heights of the Tower. You can also, potentially, reach the New Londo Ruins, but the door can only be opened from the other side. Something for later.
Head down the tower and to the right. There is another Wyvern along the path. Kill it and to the left you will be able to claim some Humanity. Move carefully as the path narrows a bit as you move inwards through the valley.
Continue along the path and you have an optional battle. You will encounter a second Undead Dragon. This one is comparably easier to kill. There is a ledge you can climb up with some ease. From there, pull out your bow and start to snipe the Undead Dragon with your arrows. Be sure you have a nice stock or have some good ranged spells to back up the arrows. If you engage the Dragon in melee, you will find this one is stationary. It will still swipe at you given the chance when you are in front of its face. The best time to move in is just after it unleashes its toxic cloud as it gives a great opening. Pull back out and wait for another cloud to lay in again.
While you do not need to kill the Undead Dragon it has a number of great items underneath it. Those are Astora's Straight Sword, Dragon Crest Shield and a Proud Soul.
Continue on forward to to find a split in the path. TO the left you will find a passage back to Blighttown. If you follow it to its end you will emerge by the Water Wheel. To the right is the New Londo Ruins path but you need a key you likely collected from exploring Blighttown. If you did not find it, back track using the left passage as it is at the end of that route. In front of the door to the New Londo Ruins you will find a corpse with a Large Soul.
Understand that the New Londo Ruins are a tricky area to deal with so be ready for a bigger challenge.
