Although you can technically begin this quest very early in Act 1, you won’t be able to complete it until later, after you have clashed with the Arachas in Iorveth’s forest hideout. For this reason, you might as well save it for right before you are about to leave the Flotsam area to begin Act 2.
Note that this quest is only available if you were able to get your hands on Newboy’s cursed amulet during the Prologue. This entire time it has been draining -10% damage reduction from you, but now you have to opportunity to reverse the curse.
Walk outside of the town borders as if you were heading towards the Kayran’s lair. Cross the stream that intersects the path, then turn to the left and walk into the forest village, past a small group of houses. Here you should find a witch named Anezka. She will be very interested in your amulet, even going as far as offering to pay for it. You can get 50 orens for the amulet, or 200 orens if you press your luck. It is advised that you deny this offer, however, and inquire what exactly it is that makes this amulet so special to her. Use persuasion and she will reveal that the amulet is not merely an amulet, but the heart of the Goddess Melitele. Anezka will tell you that she can purify the amulet for you if you bring her several ingredients. Those ingredients are: A troll’s tongue, an endrega fetus, the essence of death, and an Arachas’ eye.
You should already have the Arachas’ eye at this point thanks to the encounter at Iorveth’s lair. You can acquire the other items in numerous ways. A troll’s tongue can be obtained either by killing a troll, or by purchasing one from Cedric. Taking the non-violent route is probably the easiest way to get the item, but if you want to fell a troll you can find one outside of Flotsam. Take the wide path leading away from Flotsam that you walked to reach this point. Follow it all the way to its conclusion, where you’ll find a bridge with a troll living underneath it. Slay this troll and loot it to get its tongue.
The essence of death, despite its intimidating name, is a fairly common item. It is commonly looted off of the corpses of wraiths. Haven’t found any wraiths yet? Never fear, as there are some located in a haunted asylum in the far depths of the forest, to the right of Flotsam and past where you had Zoltan say the password so as not to be shot by the Scoia’tael. Going to this asylum is part of the side quest In The Claws of Madness, which you should have picked up from Cedric earlier.
The endrega fetus is the most common of the items you’ll need to purify the amulet. Check your inventory to make sure that you don’t have one already, as they are commonly looted from the corpses of endregas, who roam the village outskirts in packs. If you don’t have one yet, you can easily obtain one by following the little path that skirts the village of Flotsam. Make a circle around the city’s walls and you’re sure to encounter a few.
Head back to Anezka and tell her that you are ready to proceed with the ritual. She will ask that you meet her at Veyopatis’ shrine at midnight. Veyopatis’ shrine is located on the way to the bridge that had the troll living under it. Right before you reach the bridge, when you see a path shooting off towards the right, follow it to find the shrine. Meditate here until around 23:00.
Before beginning the ritual, make sure that you are ready for combat. You will have to face a small army of wraiths as Anezka purifies the amulet. Once the ritual begins, wraiths will begin spawning from one of three locations around the shrine. Only three will come for you at a time, and when you kill one, another will spawn from the same location to take its place. If you can, try to notice from which spawn point each wraith spawns. That way, when you kill it, you can move immediately to the spawn point to kill the next one that pops up.
You will have to defeat ten wraiths in order to advance the quest. If you feel like you are about to be overwhelmed, use your magic to create some distance before chugging back a health potion. Once all of the wraiths are defeated, talk to Anezka to obtain the purified amulet. It will now grant you +1 vitality regeneration, and you’ll receive 125 experience for completing the quest.
